Sharen Mains Disappointed as Nexon Announced a Complete Rework of Outposts in The First Descendant

Outposts are far from popular in TFD. However, the idea behind them is a solid one: a quick battle and a special mechanic for stealthy characters. The end product, unfortunately, is a little lackluster. Outposts have a cooldown time, which prevents consistent farming and only lengthens the whole process. And we only have a single stealthy character, Sharen, which kind of forces you to use her in these Outposts, leaving players who haven’t unlocked Sharen lagging behind. The First Descendant players have voiced their thoughts in Outposts time and time again, and Nexon finally answered and announced their complete rework.

The First Descendant Dev Team Reveals Their Plans to Rework Outposts in the Future

On November 7, the official TFD page on X posted notes for Patch 1.1.7. It fixed some Ultimate weapons, announced free Coins, and most importantly, halved the cooldown time for Outposts from a full minute to 30 seconds. But that is not all. In the Director’s Comments section, the dev team revealed that they are planning some serious rehauls of Outposts as a whole.

They start by saying that the Outpost cooldown reduction is the first step in making them more viable. Completely removing the cooldown would make the Outposts way too good, so the team decided to halve the time. “With this change, the Outpost cooldown is set to 30 seconds, allowing you to enjoy smooth gameplay while maintaining efficiency similar to that of Infiltration.”

The second stage of the rehaul will come in the early stages of Season 2. Nexon plans to make the Outpost-specific Amorphous Materials also available in Infiltration missions, allowing players multiple routes to get them. This will basically eliminate the need for Sharen, and unsurprisingly, Sharen mains are not too happy about it.

Lastly, the devs provide very vague plans for the third stage of the rework.”Plans to rework Outposts are still under discussion. Following the addition of the new farming route (Infiltration Operation – Fragment – Fusion Reactor), we want to keep our options open for a variety of improvements. Our goal is to completely overhaul the role and gameplay of Outposts, aiming to improve them so they become more engaging content with continuous battles.”

Sharen Mains Not Too Happy With This

Sharen is a Descendant who you predominantly use to farm those Outpost-specific Amorphous Materials. With the upcoming changes, Sharen mains are wondering what will their function be now, with a number of them a bit furious with the whole thing. You can see a lot of comments from players stating that Sharen will be useless now. “Sharen is going to become irrelevant for most people now,” said KnightOw7, and “Sharens only remaining purpose in TFD has now been made obsolete. The devs may as well just remove Sharen from the game at this point,” added NordNorn

Rework Incoming?

However, with Sharen getting “obsolete” pretty soon, a lot of players are sure this only means she’ll get a rework. That makes a lot of sense. If you have a character who’s good at one particular aspect of the game and then make them redundant, a natural course would be to make the character viable again.

“Fully understand the concern but there might be a bright side to Sharen moving forward. I don’t think for one second they’d just make her redundant full stop. Very likely she will see a rework soon. Where she will be more common to see in the rest of the game. Which is better.” said PapaAwiz. Others even think that the next Ultimate Descendant will be Sharen. She was present in Freyna’s cinematic and personal quest, so it would make a lot of sense for Nexon to simply continue where they left off with her.

Eliminating the need to rely solely on Sharen is a good move, but one which requires Nexon to make some extra effort in making her a viable character once more. Some speculate that we’ll get more stealth action in other missions (like getting better rewards in Infiltrations if you, well, successfully infiltrate), while others think that Sharen will get reworked to be great for bosses. More will be revealed in the future.
