It is finally here. Nexon has revealed a teaser trailer for Season 1 and it is 15 seconds full of awesomeness. From the roadmap posted earlier, we know that the plan for Season 1 is Season Progression, Field Completion, a new Descendant & Descendant story, a new Colossus and/or a Dungeon, a new weapon, new skin, and a new Ultimate Descendant. We already had confirmations about some of these (like Hailey being the new Descendant), but the rest was a mystery. Now we will offer a breakdown of the trailer and offer our thoughts on what’s what.
The Villain Of Season 1
Looking at the trailer, it looks like the main antagonist of Season 1 will be Amon. The fans took this positively since he’s arguably the fan-favorite villain in the preseason. ‘…hoping my boy amon be the threat he deserves to be, a better design and personality than Karel” said Popular_Mixture_1367 on Reddit. We are excited to see where the new storyline will lead us.
Dungeons and a Colossus
Moving on, we get to see some new dungeon-looking scenery, and an image of something that just screams “boss fight”. With the announcement that a new Dungeon/Colossus is coming, this is probably footage from the new dungeon. If this proves to be true, that will be a giant leap for TFD, since exploring a Dungeon with a squad of your mates is probably one of the best gaming experiences ever.
To top it all off, you get to see a pretty macabre face. Originally, we thought it was a new skin for Sharen, but alas, it is more likely that it’s a close-up of the new Colossus. Either way, the design is astounding, and we expect that it will be the “final boss”, at the end of the dungeon.
This may herald a new direction for TFD, where you’ll have to fight through a Dungeon before reaching the Colossus, stepping away from the simple “rinse-and-repeat” that we have now, and more towards something from an MMO, like World of Warcraft’s Dungeons and Bosses. It looks like one Redittor, named Existing_Library5311 agrees, saying: “RAID??? BOSS MECHANICS???? HELL YEAH”
Hailey and Ultimate Freyna?
Almost everyone knew that Hailey, a Chill-based sniper Descendant was the next release and this is now confirmed 100%. As with every other Descendant, the design of this new character is amazing, sporting a more “arctic” outfit, as is appropriate for a Chill-based Skill user. We also get a split-second glimpse of the power of her unique weapon.
Finally, at 0:08 of the Trailer, we get to see a character from the back, who looks an awful lot like Freyna, just upgraded. She has her regular toxic vials, but what is confusing to almost everyone is the fact that this one has a long braid. Freyna has a lot shorter hair than that, and previous Ultimate versions haven’t changed the appearance of the Descendant that much, only the outfit (fine, Bunny has a different hairdo in her Ultimate version). You can’t see the face so everything is guesswork at this point. Still, you have to start somewhere, so we are pretty sure it is going to be Ultimate Freyna after all.
Finally, the confirmed release date for Season 1: Invasion is August 29.
That is a lot to unpack in just 15 seconds, so kudos to Nexon for giving us these awesome glimpses into the future of TFD. The question of a new weapon and Field Completion are still unanswered, but we can’t have everything. Finally, these are only our thoughts and speculations, the end result may prove to be something completely different.
