Season 1 is right around the corner. The First Descendant was released in July and only had a couple of major updates (the release of Luna is considered the biggest one). On August 29, we will get the first Season and the biggest update yet, with a new Descendant, bosses, story quests, and more. However, during one update announcement, Nexon revealed that the new content will actually be added gradually, over a few months. The players are not that happy with it.
Season 1 Content Will Be Gradually Released
On August 22, Nexon released an announcement about the upcoming content. There, besides the info about Hailey, new weapons, etc, we got a release schedule for all the Season 1 content, confirming that not everything will be available from day one. The schedule looks like this.
As you can see, it is almost a month between each update. Fans were looking forward to Hailey, Ultimate Freyna, a new Void Intercept battle, etc dropping on August 29, but now they’ll have to wait until the end of September for the new Colossus, and the end of October for Ultimate Freyna.
Fans Don’t Like Drip-Feeding
As you’d expect, the players are not too happy with this. As one fan, WoWImJoe, puts it: “I get time gating to keep engagement up but the dates are way too spread out. If each was only two weeks that wouldn’t be so bad but having to wait 2 months for everything is a bit much.” Having to wait a month between each new content batch is maybe a bit too much.
Others say that there isn’t enough content in each update to keep people engaged, which will harm the player count. User bushido_maru said: “We was hyped up from the trailer about season 1, and now heartbroken from the fact that it will takes us 2 MONTHS to get Ultimate Freyna and all the content. We will run out of content until then and you guys will experience a huge drop in your player base.”
Patience is a Virtue
On the other hand, others defend Nexon’s decision to spread out the new content. With all the rushed content that you get in other games, some players are more than happy to let Nexon take their time, if that means quality content. “Don’t rush content at the expense of quality. Keep it up, devs!” said Marc_Ben_, and “The reality is the game has had some solid updates, and now we’re reaching a point where more content needs to be created. That’s why the content is being spread out over the next few months…” added FerevorGamingYT.
In conclusion, players were hyped with the trailer and now they feel let down. As one player mentioned, they should have put the schedule at the end of the trailer. But, in any case, one or two months is not that much, if that is the price we have to pay to get quality stuff. Still, some warning ahead of time would have been nice.
