It is confirmed. Nexon states that limited-time Skins we had in The First Descendant Preseason will remain exclusive and unobtainable in the future.
Skins are one of the most profitable selling points of a lot of games, especially The First Descendant. Game studios often offer limited-time skins, which are available for purchase only during a specific time frame. After that, they are usually removed from the “shop”, never to be seen again. That makes them quite valuable in the community, and players who manage to snag some limited-time skins are very proud of that. However, there is a negative aspect to all of that as players who didn’t manage to get those cosmetics in time tend to get really irritated because of it. And sometimes, studios decide to rerelease those limited skins, to appease the crowd. But now, those who originally bought the limited-time skins are feeling tricked. This whole concept has been a matter of debate in the gaming community for a while now, and in TFD as well.
Maid, Albion Academy, and Other Limited-Time Skins Will Not Return to The First Descendant Shop
Fans who missed out on the popular Maid and Albion Academy Skins, only available during the preseason, have asked time and time again when will those Skins appear in the shop once more. Skins that were originally sold as “limited-time-only”. On that subject, the devs have finally given an official answer.
“A decision has been made that previously sold limited skins cannot be resold. This was not decided by any one individual, including myself, but rather because we sold them as “limited skins that would not be resold,” making it legally problematic to sell the same skins again. As a result, existing maid and school uniforms can no longer be sold. However, we plan to create and release new versions of maid and academy uniforms in the future. We sincerely apologize to everyone who has been waiting for these skins to be resold. Thank you for your understanding.”
Community Divided
Unsurprisingly, a lot of players did not take the news well. A lot of them were hoping to get their hands on those limited skins and are blaming Nexon for a bad business decision. “This game’s monetization is absolutely bizarre, both from a business and player viewpoint.” said Heather4CYL, and “FOMO and limited editions of digital goods are two things that really have to go away in the gaming industry. They just make the games worse and limit access to content to new players, content that is already there, at no additional cost” added Kierg_54321.
On the other hand, the other half of the community fully supports Nexon’s decision to leave limited skins, well, limited. On top of the “legal” reasons, it would be very misleading to sell something as “limited-time-only” only to make it available once again, sometime in the future. That is basically lying to your customers. “I’m fine with limited time items being limited they don’t need to apologize for it,” said ResponsibleTruck4717, and “…I suspect it’s because people wanted more [provocative] skins they apparently aren’t going to get because reasons,“ added Adventurous-Ad6203.
In conclusion, the majority is for completely abolishing the whole concept of “limited-time” items. It manipulates players into purchasing those items, out of FOMO, irritates the other side, and creates unpleasant situations in the future. Thankfully, it looks like Nexon is going along that route.
