The First Descendant Players Split Over Whether Valby Needs a Rework or Not

Valby is one of the fan-favorite characters in The First Descendant and the players are split over whether she needs a rework or not.

Whether due to her cheerful nature or fun gameplay, almost everyone loves her. On that last note, players everywhere say that she’s one of the most engaging Descendants to play, and pretty powerful in her own right. But, over time, she got overshadowed by other, more popular (or efficient) choices. And now the players debate on whether Valby is ripe for a rework, or does she just need a couple of small tweaks.

Does Valby Need a Rework? The First Descendant Players Split

Valby has an almost perfect mix of abilities, basically having a tool for every job. However, while this is great for an all-rounder, TFD is more about specializations, so Valby, while being good in every aspect does not excel in any of them. This is where the idea of a Valby rework stems from, and the players are very evenly divided. Some say that she’s fine as is, she just needs a couple of tweaks and buffs, while others think a whole rework is in order, to make her a more viable choice, next to all the Freynas, Bunnys, and Haileys.

“Rework? No. QoL? Yes.”

One half of the playerbase thinks that a rework is a bit too much, and that simply tweaking some of her abilities will do just fine. “No, not at all. the most recent buff to her modifiers was all she needed. she is a complete powerhouse in 400% and completely dominates the hard mode block kuiper mining in white night gulch.” said MrSyphax. What they all agree on is that Valby needs the ability to jump while using her third ability, Clean Up.

Others ask for more utility while she’s surfing and a slight improvement in the mechanics of her fourth ability. “Rework? No. QoL? Yes. She needs ability to jump when shes water, being able to revive when shes water (this used to be a bug thats been fixed). Her Launcher needs faster animation or more accurately totally remove launcher and just spawn those water orbs.“ said Ilela

Lastly, a lot of players point out the simple fact that Valby is completely fine, it’s the other characters that are overpowered. However, this is just one part of the playerbase.

“She Absolutely Does Need a Rework”

The second half is all about Valby needing some serious rework. The main issue, as they claim, is that Valby only has only one viable build. Her skills are not that useful to allow for more build creativity while keeping her effective.

Simply buffing her damage won’t do in the long run, as xBlack_Heartx stated: “At this point yes, she absolutely does need a rework, just like Luna and Jayber do, and are receiving later this month. Buffing the dmg etc of skills while it is a short-term solution, just isn’t sustainable. Sometimes reworks of skills, mechanics, etc are required for characters. I think another lingering issue is the devs refusal to nerf anything, that imo is gonna cause a bigger issue as the game goes on.”

Lastly, some noticed that Valby’s gameplay mechanics, first debuffs then dealing continuous damage, are just too “slow” for a game like The First Descendant. Just like Ajax, her playstyle is more suited to a slower-paced game than where TFD is now.

All of these comments are pretty sensible, so hopefully a middle ground can be found. January is here and we expect Nexon to give us some more info on what to expect in the upcoming updates in the following days.
