Players Share Their Ideas on How to Fix Luna in The First Descendant

Let’s face it, Luna does not have the best mechanics in the game. Sure, her design is awesome and everyone’s crazy about her. On the day of release, many players purchased her with Calibers, instead of grinding for days to unlock her in the usual way. But, in terms of gameplay, a lot of them were pretty disappointed. Turns out Luna’s playstyle is a bit weird, having to keep track of a lot of different mechanics for a pretty minor payoff. Naturally, players returned to more straightforward and effective characters and the only ones playing Luna are her hardcore fans.

Good Concept – Bad Execution

It would be a shame to let a character concept go to waste. Other popular games have a “musical” character, like Lucio from Overwatch or Sona from League of Legends, so the concept is not the problem. The problem is that her character mechanics and playstyle do not fit the hectic shooter gameplay TFD has.

One Luna player, named SummerDash on Reddit, listed all the issues they found while playing. Some of the issues include:

  • “Can get into lobbies where her buffs are useless so she becomes a bad gun character.”
  • “She has too much invisible power that you literally cannot tell if you’re doing anything or not cause you can’t see your allies’ MP.”
  • “You can’t see how much more damage you’re increasing randoms by.”
  • “Her unique gun is [bad]. Even with a fully built DPS build juggling 26 stacks of her 3 buffs you do less damage than a regular gun with minimum investment.”

Others chime in with their experiences, like fightingmongoos saying: “Give us a mod to allow us to bypass the gimmick where you play a hard-to-see mini-game just to get the buffs to work. Honestly, I just unlocked Luna. I’m close to getting her to level 40 and never using her again.” and backfacecull added: “I recently unlocked her, tried her out and realized I just don’t enjoy this mini-game. It blocks my view of the scene, prevents me from maneuvering around and drags all my focus away from positioning and observing my allies to an irritating mini-game…”

To make matters worse, players say that the notes on the mini-game don’t even match the music you’re supposed to follow. Looks a bit rushed, doesn’t it?

Fans Offer Ideas to Make Luna Playable

Everything can be fixed, at least in the gaming world. The main issue is that the irritating mini-game is a requirement for Luna to work at all. And even when doing everything perfectly, her contribution is lackluster. Not to mention that you have to use her sub-par unique weapon all the time. And all of that goes to waste if you’re out of MP.

However, some simple solutions and tweaks could work wonders. For example, backfacecull offers: “She shouldn’t have to equip a special gun to provide her buffs. The music mini-game should only come up when she’s doing her ult (4) – and matching the beat should extend the game or increase the power.“ User Lukeman1881 said: “Honestly, they should’ve added the effects from noise surge into her base kit. Keep the buffs but add in the damage AOEs. Be a bunny that needs more upkeep with less range and damage BUT balance that with the ability to buff your team. “

Others say that the removal of her gun is the way to go. As it stands, you have to use her unique gun for your Skills, so all of your “regular” guns stay unused. Alternatively, having her unique weapon scale off your existing guns would also be an improvement, and taking powerful firearms would have a point when playing Luna.

Unfortunately, Luna is one of the weakest Descendants at the moment. “I loved her idea! I love music-based characters in games. This was not implemented well at all” said the OP. With Season 1 on the way, and Hailey joining the fray, we hope Nexon will not simply forget about Luna and will do something to make her a more viable choice.
