Players Discovered a Neat Workaround for Reactor Weapon Mountings in The First Descendant

Reactors have a special place in TFD players’ hearts. They improve your Skill Power, melee attack, and anything else along those lines. However, they also have a very unpopular feature: weapon mountings. In short, the Reactor gets a whopping 60% increase in Power if you are wielding a required weapon type (like Hang Canon, Scout Rifle, or even specific Ultimates, like Thunder Cage). The problem with this is that, well, players usually want to switch between their weapons, depending on the current situation. So your Reactor bonus kinda goes on and off, and players have been asking for some tweaks to this system. But, as we all wait and hope for a rework, some The First Descendant players noticed a sneaky workaround for this controversial Reactor mechanic.

You Can Keep the Bonus With Certain Skills

Dedicated players have discovered that Skills that have a duration (ie, not the “instant” ones), like Bunny’s Lightning Emmision or Ajax’s Barriers, keep the weapon mounting bonus, even after you switch to another weapon. You just have to hold the required weapon when you activate the skill, then you can freely switch to another weapon, and the activated skill will keep the 60% Power increase.

All of this is discussed in a Reddit post, started by TitaniumFINGER. The OP tested this out and said: “In the video I show a bunny with base stats with a reactor that has enduring legacy as it’s mounting, I first show activating a skill without having enduring legacy out, and as you can see the max white damage is 22,110. Next I activate the skill again with enduring legacy out and then immediately swap weapons and my max damage remains at the increased amount of 35,376.“

This Reactor Workaround Is Called Snapshotting in The First Descendant

Some players were aware of this and pointed out that it is known as “Snapshotting”. “I think this has been known it’s called snapshotting. But idk how many characters it works on.” said OneAboveAinz. While not a game-breaker, some characters can truly benefit from this “exploit”, like Bunny, Viessa, or Freyna. “I figured this out because I main Freyna and her poison stacks from her passive works the same way.” said Present-Plan-8011.

But, this is just a small workaround, not a solution, and The First Descendant players are still asking for a change of the whole Reactor mechanic. “I hope it’s changed to going off equipped weapons not just in hand. The fact that I lose a ton of damage off my Lepic ult if I forget to swap my weapon before changing to the ult weapon is weird and needlessly convoluted“ said Travwolfe101. The next big update is scheduled for October 10, so fingers crossed that Nexon will do something about it.
