Players Disappointed that Nexon Sneakily Removed Some Personalized Voice Lines From The First Descendant

The storyline and the character relations in The First Descendant are ok at best. Only recently have the developers started expanding on the story and the characters, and the community really liked it. Focusing solely on new skins can only get you so far. Unfortunately, it has come to the community’s attention that some, if not all, personalized voice lines between characters have been silently removed, and naturally, The First Descendant players are pretty disappointed.

It was pretty hard to notice the change. Until recently, when you revive another Descendant, there were some general voice lines and banter between characters, and almost every character had a couple of unique voice lines when reviving a specific character. The most famous one was when Valby revived Bunny, saying: “Get up, you wascally wabbit” (a homage to Looney Toons characters Elmer Fudd and Bugs Bunny). However, it seems Nexon removed them from the game and only kept the generic ones.

The First Descendant Players Disappointed That Nexon Sneakily Removed Personalized Voice Lines From the Game

Sneaky changes are great when they are beneficial to the game. But recently, players started noticing that the personalized revival voice lines are practically gone and only the generic ones are left. This was noticed by one player, named Noah-x3 on Reddit. “For example, some descendants would tell Bunny to slow down. Their personalities or elements would be referenced in some way. I think this gave everyone a lot more character, instead now we get generic voice lines no matter who you’re reviving.” He adds that during the Beta, we even had voice lines during some Emotes. Obviously, they didn’t make the cut for the 1.0 version.

Others join in, saying that you just don’t get enough insights into Descendant personalities besides the cutscenes and mission briefings. The removal of the personalized voice lines is an unnecessary blow to an already underdeveloped part of the game. “It’s also rare to see some descendants in missions, so getting to hear their lines were even cooler. We’ll never know how Keelan and Esiemo would interact now. Or how Serena would react to Jayber.” noted Detpowell.

“Difficult To Maintain”

Now, the question is: why has Nexon done this? According to some earlier comments, the devs allegedly stated that it is difficult to maintain these voicelines with all the new characters that are appearing. They’d have to make new interactions for each new characters, and it looks like that is out of their budget.

The players are perplexed that Nexon, in this case, would not simply leave the existing voice lines as they are and just give the new character the generic voice lines. They could go a step beyond and only make new interactions where it makes sense. For example, for Ines and Keelan, or Serena and Gley. Unfortunately, that is not the case.

Hopefully, this is only a temporary decision. As many players stated, the voice lines are right there; Nexon can just reapply them. If not, this is a pretty underhanded move, and we doubt that anyone would appreciate it in the long run.
