When you are in Albion, there are so many terminals and NPCs that you can interact with. Most of the time you’ll be dealing with Anais, to research weapons, Descendants, and other items, or with Alpha and Nell, for the main storyline. There are a lot of other helpful NPCs and stations scattered around that aid you on your journey, either by upgrading your gear, sending you to the Practice Range, etc. But, there is one NPC vendor that has everyone scratching their heads in confusion.
What’s the Point of Deslin, the Weapons Merchant in Albion?
In the western part of Albion, right between the weapons Workbench, and Siena, the Laboratory Manager, is a guy called Deslin, the Weapons Lab Director. He offers to buy or sell weapons and Reactors. What no one gets is, well, why? You can get so many weapons, Reactors, and other equipment just by doing practically any mission. Why would you spend Gold to purchase random gear?
This is discussed in a Reddit thread, started by Dependent-Host-7324. A lot of players ask “What’s the point of this guy??” and you get answers like “To be useless” by kraize78 and “…he is a placeholder for now” by SenpaiRemling.
He’s There For a Critical Task
For starters, a lot of players point to the fact that selling stuff to Deslin is the only way to get Gold for your items. Useful in case you need more Gold to upgrade your Modules, or something similar. “It’s the only way to sell things for cash instead of breaking down for parts” said thekidubullied and wanstarz91 added: “To sell your gun after you maxed them and after you got tired of dismantling and [don’t] have money cause the terrible mod upgrade fee..”
But, he’s not there only for your money troubles. As several players pointed out, he’s there in case you make a mistake and dismantle/sell your whole inventory. “Its possible to unequip all your guns and reactors, dismantle them, and not be capable of doing damage. This guy is a fail safe against that.“ said Xanu-San.
It’s great to have a way to recover in case you make a critical mistake. Deslin may look useless, but his job is pretty important. And, as some players pointed out, he may just be a placeholder at the moment and may get more and more useful as the game progresses.
