“Each More Powerful Than the Last” The First Descendant Players Debate the Collosi Situation

The First Descendant Descendants fighting Death Stalker

The Colossi are the “bosses” of TFD, with each having their own attacks, resistances, and unique mechanics. Some are more beginner-friendly, while others are only for the more experienced players, with mechanics that can wipe out the whole team in an instant, if you are not careful. With the upcoming Collosi revealed, called Death Stalker, Nexon stated that it will be even stronger than the last one, Gluttony. That one is pretty infamous, especially for all the insta-kill mechanics it has, so the players wonder what new horrors Death Stalker will bring.

Does Every Collosi Have to Be More Powerful Than the Last?

With the reveal of the Death Stalker, players started discussing the Collosi situation. As it stands, every new Colossus was “more powerful than the last”. This begs the question: will this be the trend with every new Colossus in the future?

If it does go that way, we are in danger of suffering the infamous “power creep”, where everything new, be it Colossus or a Descendant, will surpass the ones before it in every way. On the topic of Collosi, that means that players will have to rely on “best” builds, which forces you to play the game in a certain way, not how you would like. Apart from that, players wonder what “more formidable foe than any Colossus you have intercepted so far” means in game terms.

“I don’t really understand what “harder” means when it comes to colossi! Is it that it has bajillion HP? Does bajillion damage? Has puzzle that needs resolving which requires team coordination?” asked ahmmu20. On that last note, players are not too keen on weird gimmicks that rely on perfect teamwork. It is all good when you are playing with friends, but most players have to do it with randoms, and that usually goes poorly. “After dealing with molten fortress I never wanna play with randoms in this game again.“ stated Epiphany965.

The Majority Leans Towards Tougher Fights

Some players ask for more normal-difficulty Colossi, the reason being that that way players can practice some more advanced boss mechanics, to prepare themselves for the tougher ones.

But surprisingly, the majority of players would love tougher and tougher bosses, so they can actually use their fine-tuned builds to full effect. You get comments like “Players with maxed endgame builds need new things to do,” and “I’d take a new strongest, that way people who build it have somewhere to use it.” One player, named vegetablebasket on Reddit, said: “They should only add harder ones IMO, everything below molten Fortress gets shredded by maxed out Haileys instantly, and, the longer the game is around the more people are going to max out whatever the meta bosser is.” If you have maxed out boss-wreckers running around, the new “intermediate” bosses would get eliminated instantly, which kind of defeats the whole point.

This is not a simple topic, as both approaches have their merits. Some way to regulate which players can and cannot join which battles would be great. But, that goes against the general grind-based mechanics of TFD, so the chances are very slim. Maybe allowing you to choose the difficulty of every Colossus, Normal or Hard (with appropriate rewards), just like Uber Bosses in Diablo 4, would make a massive difference and please both sides of this “conflict”.
