“I’m Tired, Boss” The First Descendant Players Already Burned Out By the Grind For Ultimate Sharen

Season 2 is one of the best things that happened to TFD. It added new characters, cool new missions, some awesome QoL changes, a ton of events (everyone loves free stuff), a great Battle Pass, and unfortunately, some errors. One of the best parts is that Sharen got her Ultimate variant. The devs released a short video showcasing her Ultimate Skins and the fans went wild. Now she’s available to unlock (or purchase, if you are so inclined), but, it looks like there are some issues with that. It seems that The First Descendant players are already burned out by the grind for Ultimate Sharen.

Ultimate Sharen Grind is More Tiring Than Fun, Say The First Descendant Players

Grinding for an Ultimate Descendant is usually way tougher than grinding for the regular Descendant. The drop rates are lower and they require rarer materials. But, it is usually worth the grind. Thankfully, Nexon is kind enough to reward dedicated players with a free Ultimate Bunny in one of their ongoing events.

As for the latest Ultimate character, Sharen, it looks like Nexon miscalculated a little bit, as the players are already tired of gathering the necessary materials to research her. And it’s been less than a week. So, what is the problem?

Well, for every part needed to research Ultimate Sharen, you need a lot of Heavy Ion Collectors. Those are new crafting materials, added in Season 2, so everyone starts from scratch. To add insult to injury, these Heavy Ion Collectors can only be found in two Infiltration missions: Mystery’s End and Bio Lab, both White-night Gulch missions, and you only get seven per run (regardless of difficulty).

So, in summary, you need 63 Heavy Ion Collectors for each of the three Ultimate Sharen parts: Enhanced Cells, Spiral Catalyst, and Stabilizer. That is 189 Heavy Ion Collectors in total. If each run gives you seven Heavy Ion Collectors, you’ll need to play the same two missions 27 times. And that without taking into account other materials and Blueprints needed. As expected, the players are not too happy about this.

Players Already Burned Out

Players were ready for a grind, but not like this. Replaying the same two missions does get stale pretty fast. “I’ve been alternating Mystery’s End and Bio Lab mostly solo; it is tedious to say the least.” said EnvironmentalLead787, “If they could stop requiring every part to have the same mission mat, that’d be great. Farming a mission over and over is boring enough. At least send us to different missions for each part.” added ddWolf_, and “Picking the material itself isn’t the issue actually, but for ALL 3 parts THAT IS THE ISSUE” said Ghozgul.

Some players chimed in with their ideas on how best to do this, from speedrunning everything with Bunny to watching something on the side, to keep yourself occupied. However you look at it, those missions have to be done if you want Ultimate Sharen. You can try doing them as fast as possible, or spread them out over several days or weeks, the end result is the same. Hopefully, Nexon will increase the number of Heavy Ion Collectors drops, or better yet, have them as a reward in, well, other missions.
