Photo mode is a popular feature in many games. It allows you to either freeze the action and then take the best screenshot ever (while changing the camera angle, some even allow you to modify the photo with effects and such), or they have a specific photo mechanic (where the character usually poses for the photo in various ways). Nearly every game with great visuals is ripe for Photo Mode and a lot of them have it already. So it is quite a surprise that games like Nier: Automata, Stellar Blade, and even The First Descendant (all similar in design) do not have it. We recently found out that Stellar Blade is getting one, and TFD fans should be happy to know that even The First Descendants is getting a Photo Mode, as confirmed by devs.
Devs Are Working on a Photo Mode for The First Descendant
We can’t deny that the majority of TFD players are there for the visuals. Right now, the only way you can capture some great-looking photos is by toggling the “Hide Battle UI” button off and taking a screenshot. Of course, for action shots, things get a bit complicated, since you have to take the photo while trying to survive. And stuff can get a bit blurry in those situations.
As more and more fans asked for Photo Mode, especially on the official TFD Discord Q&A channel, the devs finally gave an answer.
“Yes, we’ve received a lot of feedback about the photo mode and have started work on it quickly. There’s already a meeting scheduled next week to finalize the design specifications.”
How Will Photo Mode Work in The First Descendant?
We still have no word on how Photo Mode will function in TFD. Sure, it is easier to implement this feature in single-player games, where you can pause the action at any moment. But, TFD is a multiplayer game, and as everyone (besides our moms) knows: you can’t pause a multiplayer game.
Our opinion is that Photo Mode will either be doable only while in Albion (possibly with the whole “character posing for a photo” mechanic) or in Private servers (the regular “pause the game and take a photo”). That would still require some work, since you still can’t pause the game in any way, even in Private servers.
Fans Have Mixed Reactions
Sure, the Photo Mode option is great. However, some fans are worried that it may take the game down the wrong path. “Photo mode will be used exclusively for [unsavory] purposes,” says DevastatorGX100 and “Unbelievable why photo mode? We need content!” added Difficult-Top3412.
However, most are happy with the prospect of Photo Mode, like Catmenk who said: “Looks like I am gonna spend more time taking pictures instead of grind,” and SlayerJaegar who added: “Can’t wait to take photos of Valby”.
