The long-awaited Season 3 reveal on Summer Game Fest has happened, but no one expected the change in the release date. It has been a while since we got some significant new content, and naturally, The First Descendant players are up in arms over the delay of the Season 3 release date.
A while ago, Nexon announced that they would be a part of this year’s Summer Game Fest, a massive annual gaming festival held by Geoff Keighley. The fans expected to see some big reveals for TFD, mostly about the upcoming Season 3. And see them they did, as Nexon delivered a pretty cool trailer video, showing some of the new content, like the massive Wall Breaker, Nell, Hover Bikes, what looks like another female Descendant, and more. However, the ending of the trailer showed something that got the fans fuming.
The First Descendant Players Fuming Over the Delay of Season 3
Let’s be honest, there is a bit of content drought in TFD, so the players are placing all of their best on the upcoming Season. It is all or nothing for TFD at this point. Until now, things were looking pretty good, and the hype was slowly but steadily building up. The players were excited for the ‘world boss” Colossus, the new vehicles, and especially Nell as a playable Descendant.
However, the trailer‘s ending revealed that the release date for The First Descendant Season 3: Breakthrough is scheduled for August 7, rather than July, as initially planned. Saying that the fans did not take it well is an understatement.
“Today at Summer Game Fest 2025, we unveiled the teaser trailer for Season 3: Breakthrough—and officially announced that the new season will launch on Thursday, August 7. We know many Descendants were hoping to experience Season 3 earlier, and we apologize that we couldn’t meet those expectations,” said Minseok Joo.
“Season 3 is a major update that includes large-scale new content and structural expansion of the game. The Dev Team focuses primarily on quality and determines that we need more time to prepare. We ask for your understanding.”
Fans Not Happy With the Delay
While we do believe that there are reasons for the delay, the fans are furious that they have to wait even longer for new content. The devs are planning to release some events, as a way to keep the players busy, but the fans are having none of it. “…How disappointing, I’ve been playing since launch until today, and it’s the worst lack of content ever,” said rVergil21, “So… 2 months of absolutely nothing?” asked DavidGalgo44631, and “Season 2 will be 246 days long as of August 7. I thought Destiny was bad for content droughts but they somehow managed to beat them,” stated Insane_Playzz_.
However, some players are a bit more optimistic, and you can see comments like “Let them cook!” and “Thanks for not releasing something rushed, take your time, looking forward to what’s coming in S3” by Ruledragon_TV. Unfortunately, positive comments are a minority right now.
While we do understand that the delay is for the good of the game, TFD is in a bad spot right now, with less than 10.000 active players. While the events are nice, especially the one celebrating TFD’s first anniversary, they alone are not enough to pacify the player base. The devs did say that they will be holding another devlive on June 12, where they will reveal their plans for June and July. So, let’s hold out judgments until then.
