This happens with every game. The player numbers upon release are pretty high as everyone wants to try out the new thing. Especially if it is free to play and looks as good as The First Descendant does. Gradually, the numbers dwindle, as the players move on to other things and the players that are left are those that truly like the game. Unfortunately, people love drama and negativity, so you hear statements like “The game is dead!” or “80% of the players have left” all the time. Let’s see what that is all about and if there is any truth to it.
The Player Numbers Are Holding
Well, their saying that the game is dead is a bit far-fetched. As it stands, the average number of players on Steam is between 30.000 and 50.000, according to info provided by SteamDB. Now take into account that this is Steam-only, and there are a lot of players playing on PlayStation and Xbox. Quite a lot of players for a “dead” game.
This is also discussed in one Reddit thread, posted by ventimiglius, where players point out that the game is still in Pre-season so it is still early to say anything. “F2P games almost always shed something ridiculous like 80% of their player base over the first 3 or so months. It’s extremely common to the point that all players of online games and all developers of online games expect it to happen. It’s an inevitability.“ said FlameStaag.
Numbers Will Rise With the Release of Season 1
As previously mentioned, the game is still in Pre-season. A lot of players are taking a break, waiting for the release of the first Season. Come Season 1, we will see an increase in the number of players. “Well, I’m just taking a break before the update. I’m sure a lot of people are as well. I’ve gotten every bit of enjoyment and grind out of pre-season and can’t wait to do it again in season 1.” said LuckyLunaris.
User JonhyWonder123 added: “It’s 7 days before the first ever (true) season for this game. A lot [of players] stop playing and wait till the new update drops with all the new stuff…Usually in these types of games you will notice a downtrend in numbers right at the end of a season, which is perfectly normal.”
With the new Season on the horizon, we expect that a lot of players will return to check it out. Especially with the announced “Dungeons”, Hailey, and all the fun stuff coming in Season 1. Nexon did a pretty good job so far, so we are quite optimistic about the future of the game.
