Nexon earns revenue from The First Descendant mostly through the skins. And rightfully so, as the game is free to play, they have put a lot of effort into designing those Skins and giving the players what they want. However, the price tag on those skins is a bit on the higher side. You have to set aside about $20-30 for one of the better skins, and you’ll hardly settle with just one. The price of skins has been a hotly debated topic for a while now, with some fans even suggesting that lowering the prices or adding low-cost Skins, would do wonders for the game, while others claim that “expensive” Skins are responsible for keeping the game afloat. On November 18, the devs addressed the future of Skin prices in The First Descendant, stating that they will remain the same.
The Skin Prices Will Remain the Same, Says The First Descendant Dev
With the opening of the official Q&A channel on TFD Discord, the devs are keeping the fans up to date with all the news and their plans for the game while answering tons of questions. And, when they announced that “Shared Skins” were coming to the game, a lot of fans were worried that would increase their price tag. After all, something that was only usable on one Descendant will now be usable on multiple characters, and everyone expected that would lead to a Skin price increase. And on that note, a developer that goes by the name of TFD_PD_Lee on Discord had this to say.
“Thank you for your kind words! (To be completely honest, as always,) we currently have no plans to adjust skin prices. Even when skins are converted to universal skins, their prices will remain the same. While some have suggested that a price increase might be acceptable when skins become universal, we’ve all agreed to maintain the existing prices.”
Unsurprisingly, the fans are delighted to hear this. We were all a bit afraid that shared skins would be more expensive, but Nexon really made a good decision with this one. “I did expect they increase the price from 750 to like 1000-1250 calibers for universal skins but they took just another W decision. So many awesome skins are coming in S2, they show no mercy to our wallets.“ said Blastie89.
The Promise of More Free Skins in the Future
But that is not all. In the second part of the message, TFD_PD_Lee added that they “plan to continue expanding the availability of skins as rewards (through events, battle passes, boss clears, etc.) rather than purely as paid content. While it’s true that we can’t provide an abundant supply immediately, both the development and business teams are aligned on this approach and are preparing accordingly.”
As an added confirmation, they also mentioned that Colossi will start dropping skins as rewards somewhere in Season 2, during the announcement. Even though the skins are a bit on the pricier side, at least we know that shared skins won’t get more expensive anytime soon.
