Nexon released a bunch of events lately with better and better rewards. Sure, some players are a bit miffed about it, as what they worked for diligently will now be given out to everyone for free (like Ultimate Bunny), but offering better rewards than earlier is the right call by the devs. And now, in a surprising turn of events, Nexon announced a new short-form video contest event for The First Descendant. However, the rewards are pretty strange and the players are far from amused.
The First Descendant Short-Form Contest Event
Just now, on December 13, The First Descendant official X profile announced that a new short-form video contest has begun. In short, from December 13 to December 31, you are encouraged to create and post “a short-form video of fun and joyful moments you’ve had while playing The First Descendant. (Example: Showing off your skin and customization, a compilation of funny moments during a mission, etc.)” It should be uploaded on a short-form platform of your choice, like TikTok, YouTube, or Instagram Reels, as well as in TFD’s Discord, on the video-contest channel.
As for the video itself, it should be filmed in 9:16 format and be no longer than 60 seconds. Nexon offers tips, saying:
- “Try to feature interesting moments that other Descendants can relate to.
- Try expressing the theme and content of The First Descendant Season 2, such as the new Descendants, Fellows, and Events.
- Try to feature various moments that are unique to The First Descendant, such as teamplay or skill utilization.”
You can see the rest of the details on their official post.
And now, the most important part. The reward for 20 lucky winners of this contest is, drumroll please…one year of Discord Nitro.
…ok?
Fans Laugh at the Rewards
Having one year of Discord Nitro is…neat. Absolutely nothing to write home about, especially from the TFD point of view. It is absolutely unrelated to the game. Sure, some among us would use this reward, but most of the players are a bit surprised (and not in a good way). You can see comments like: ”Discord Perks…” and “Discord nitro as reward?” followed by laughing emojis and GIFs.
Some jokingly say that the number of videos with “Smooth Criminal” Descendants will be huge, referring to the recently fixed issue of characters standing diagonally. But it’s not impossible. Others chose violence and said: “About all I can do is make a short of how unplayable the game is due to all the crashes.”
With all the great events we have, this Short-Form Contest event is a strange decision. On the other hand, they are commonplace with Asian games, so it isn’t that much of a surprise when you think about it. Only if we had a better reward…
