The majority of online games, especially shooters, have seasonal skins. Basically, every major holiday is an excuse for the devs to make some seasonal cosmetics. TFD hasn’t been around long enough for us to know if Nexon plans to follow the trend, with the upcoming Halloween being the first “mainstream” holiday the devs have to face. But, it seems that everything will be as expected since the upcoming Skins for Halloween have been revealed in the second Season 1 Update preview video.
“Not Great, Not Terrible”
For this spooky season, The First Descendant will welcome a couple of seasonal skins. We can see a pumpkin-themed one, Nurse outfits (black and white), and the classic striped black-and-white prisoner skins. There are also a couple of cool emotes, one with the witch’s broom, one where you toss candies around, one where you sit in an ominous-looking chair, and one where you are pulled inside the coffin. Unfortunately, none of these look like they are interactive, like the famous Conga drums emote, or the more recent Squad Star.
We think the skins are pretty cool, but nothing to write home about. “Not great, not terrible”, as the saying goes. We hoped for more, well, spookier stuff, like ghosts and such, but we realize that it is not that easy for the dev team to pull off. A simple clothes change is way easier to do and the devs have too much on their plate already.
Fans Divided
But, a lot of the fans think differently. Many of them are disappointed by the new skins, saying that they are a bit lazy. “Eh I was excited for the Halloween skins but these look lazy. Maybe we already reached peak with the Valby and Viessa swimsuit skins and the Ultimate Bunny base skin, nothing has topped those,” said J3sUsD. Others agree, like Fantastic_Snow_9633, saying: “I set my expectations way too high for Halloween costumes. The first pumpkin-like one actually is creative, so I’ll give them that. I get the concept of s**y nurses and prisoners, but something about these feels very half-a**ed.”
Others point out that there are no male skins, at least shown in the preview. It may be that the prisoner outfits are available for both genders, but it is obvious that there are no male-exclusive skins this Halloween season.
Alternatively, others are fine with the new skins. You get a lot of comments from players saying that their wallets are in danger, like “Shut up and take my money!” and “Aw man I gotta swipe again ain’t I”.
It could’ve been a bit better, but it also could’ve been much worse. We just hope that Nexon will not put an insane price tag on these.
