Has The First Descendant Gotten a Bit Boring or Are We Asking for Too Much? Community Split Down the Middle

The First Descendant had a good start and is still going strong, but has the game gotten a bit boring now, or are the players a bit spoiled and asking for too much all the time?

The pre-season had enough content for everyone, the character design is awesome, the gameplay is nothing extremely original but it works as it is, and there is a lot of room for improvement and more content. We had major updates in the pre-season, and Season 1 followed soon enough, adding even more characters, bosses, dungeons, and general content. However, dedicated players made quick work of everything that Nexon added, even the latest 400% Infiltrations.

It is also worth noting that the devs, Nexon, have been quick to change and fix a lot of stuff that the players complained about, like tweaking unpopular game mechanics, increasing or reducing difficulty on certain parts, and the like. They even removed some “unwanted” parts from a popular skin, since the players have been complaining about them for a while now. The next update is scheduled for October 30, but it will mostly address some in-game mechanics issues and add a couple of new options. As for the next major update, we’ll have to wait for Season 2, which starts in early December, and that is more than a month from now.

With all that being said, some veteran players state that the game is a bit boring now, there is nothing to do anymore besides waiting a whole month. On the other hand, others claim that after Nexon has done almost everything the players asked for, we are getting a bit spoiled with our requests and that we should just give them a break.

Some The First Descendant Players Claim that “The Game is Boring”

The main argument for the game getting boring is that there is nothing much to do, besides repetitive grinding. The new content can be done in a matter of hours, and then it’s back to grinding. “I like this game and I want it to prosper, but it has nothing to offer anymore outside of “cultured” skins. Hopefully season 2 can bring life back to this game. Sorry for sounding negative,” said Round_Trick_1663 in their Reddit post.

The main complaint is that now, with Ultimate Freyna being so powerful, the endgame content is a breeze and that gets boring quickly. ”Content is limited, and Freyna made any public dungeons [freaking] dumb, so the whole 400% dungeon thing was only fun for a few days.” said LurkerOrHydralisk, and “It’s gotten boring. Ultra meta build games that require no skill have that happen quickly,” added BrytheOld.

However, the majority of players point out the fact that you are not obliged to spend hours and hours every day in TFD. “Take a break, come back later, no biggie. “ said LowEffortPoast and a lot of players agreed, with TotesMahGoat420 adding: “I’m a day 1 player with 600 hours in the game and taking a break and playing other games is necessary imo…Now I’m enjoying the grind again.” and Nightmari0ne said that the game is only a few months old and that we should let Nexon work on it on their own pace. “…you won’t get paid for playing 8 hours a day, you’ll only end up burnt out, nothing to do and disappointed. “

That all leads to the other question: are we asking for too much?

Have We Gotten Spoiled?

The second argument is that the player base has gotten a bit spoiled, with Nexon caving in to their every whim and desire. Almost every major complaint has been addressed in one way or another.

“”We want more endgame! ‘We want more ultimates!’ We want more content! The game got boring! Freyna is too oppressive! Buff other descendants!” I’ve seen these lately, it’s gotten me sick already. Devs listened to you all so closely that y’all were singing their well deserved praises. But y’all got TOO used to that behavior “do as we say or we won’t play”.“ said Nightmari0ne. They continue listing every complaint that the players had, how Nexon addressed them, and they add that positive criticism, actual insight, and patience will work way better in the long run.

Others add that the game is still young, only a few months old, and it is still too early for it to choose a direction in which it will go. “I’ve heard people referring to the recent updates and claiming we need new dungeons, new bosses, new weapons, new this and that, but here’s the problem: we didn’t even settle on the gameplay yet.” said YangXiaoLong69. They add that speedrunning through a fairly new game is the reason players get bored so quickly. “If your enjoyment of a game is doing everything, getting to the top ASAP, even on a game that doesn’t have a lot of content yet since it’s still fairly new, then don’t complain about having nothing to do when you decided to put yourself into that spot.”

However, some do stand by their complaints, saying that a looter-shooter game needs a lot of content to keep the players engaged, which TFD is obviously lacking. “There is not enough to do to hold the average player’s interest if they have started playing from launch or even a month ago. Telling players not to rush or minmax everything is like telling them to stop progressing in the game. The core part of a looter shooter is to get better gear, are you telling people to hinder their own progress so they can draw out their enjoyment of the game?” asked AppropriateTotal6414.

There is some truth in all the arguments presented here, and it is quite difficult to pick the right side. The fact is that TFD is lacking in content, and another fact is that it is only a few months old. Same with complaining, the player base is a bit spoiled now, but only because they care about the game and want it to succeed.
