The long-awaited dev livestream ended just hours ago, and many fun new features and improvements are on the way. Devs talked about the new update for The First Descendant for almost an hour, and here we have covered the new mission type that’s coming, Void Erosion Purge, as well as a couple of new features/additions: Weapon Core Unlocking, and Ultimate Weapon Elements.
The First Descendant – Void Erosion Purge Missions, Weapon Core Unlocking, and Ultimate Weapon Elements
Void Erosion Purge
A new type of mission will be added to TFD with the second update. Void Erosion Purge missions are a “hack and slash” experience where you have to clear out mobs of powerful Vulgus in a set amount of time, to spawn a boss. If you complete a run fast enough, you will unlock the next Stage, with stronger enemies (the first Stage features enemies of Level 160+), and there are 20 Stages.
To make things interesting, some monsters have shields against attacks of certain attributes, so over-relying on one attribute may not be the best course of action. You can do Void Erosion Purges on a Public or a Private server, but there is a caveat. To avoid long waiting times, Public missions will only be available on Stages 1, 5, 9, 13, and 17, and Public missions will be slightly different. On February 6, even higher stages will be added with better rewards. The rewards in these missions are the items for the new Weapon Core enhancement mechanic.
Party Search
A Party Search feature will also be added, so the players can more easily team up, without resorting to the randomness of Public servers. Unfortunately, the devs didn’t go into more detail than this and we’re unsure if this will work for the whole game or just for Void Erosions.
Weapon Elements
With the new update, a lot of Ultimate Weapons will get a base elemental attack, as follows:
- Fire
- Assault Rifle – Divine Punishment
- Tactical Rifle – Greg’s Reversed Fate
- Scout Rifle – Wave of Light
- Launcher – Restored Relic
- Chill
- Handgun – The Final Masterpiece
- Beam Rifle – Clairvoyance
- Scout Rifle – Frost Watcher
- Sniper Rifle – Piercing Light
- Toxic
- Submachine Gun – Python
- Assault Rifle – Fallen Hope
- Machine Gun – Albion Cavalry Gun
- Beam Rifle – King’s Guard Lance
- Hand Cannon – Perforator
- Launcher – Sigvore’s Proof
- Electric
- Assault Rifle – Excava
- Beam Rifle- Voltia
- Scout Rifle – Blue Beetle
- Shotgun – Hammer and Anvil
Surprisingly enough, Thunder Cage is not on the Electric list, and Enduring Legacy is also missing. These attribute attacks are in addition to the existing ATK stat and can be considered a buff to the weapon. Furthermore, you can equip a different elemental damage Module, as usual, to have your weapon deal two types of elemental damage.
Weapon Core Unlocking
Finally, our man Deslin is getting some attention. He’ll be the designated NPC for the Weapon Core Unlocking mechanic. Weapon Core upgrades will be available only for Ultimate weapons that are Level 100, and have their Unique Ability Enhanced fully.
Weapon Cores have five slots, with each type of slot granting different bonuses:
- Firepower Augmentation Type
- Firearm ATK
- Can grant additional Firearm attack power when attacking Colossi
- Hit Augmentation Type
- Weak Point Damage
- Firearm Critical Hit Rate
- Firearm Critical Hit Damage

The bonuses and values granted are random but can be “rolled again” using the Core Particle Disruptor. As with the Void Erosion Missions, the February 6 update will further improve the whole Weapon Core system.
Void Erosion Purge Missions and Weapon Core Unlocking are just some of the many improvements coming to The First Descendant on January 16.
