Pets are a common sight in a lot of games, especially multiplayer ones. They started off purely as a cute “accessory”, something that runs around with no in-game purpose (other than being adorable). As the pets became more common in games, the devs started giving them minor functions, so they could help out with gathering, crafting, or anything similar. In the first roadmap we got for The First Descendant, there is an upcoming feature that is called “Utility Companion”. The players speculated whether they would be pets (biological ones) or drones, and what their function would be. So, on that note, here’s what we know about Fellows in The First Descendant.
What We Know About the Fellows in The First Descendant
During the official Season 2 announcement video, Nexon confirmed that companions, or Fellows as is their in-game name, are indeed dogs and will be coming to The First Descendant with Season 2. And on November 19, TFD’s official X profile shared the following post.
So, let’s start from the top. It looks like their official title is really “Fellows”. Everyone thinks that the intention was to call them “Companions”, but during the Korean-English translation, it came up as Fellows. Either that or Nexon really wanted to have a title different from the usual ones. Still, Fellow can be cute. Fella. Feller. You get it.
Next, “Auto-Pickup consumables & items” is something that is also mentioned in the S2 announcement video. As it stands, your Fellow will pick up dropped items from the floor in your vicinity. As the devs mentioned, the dog will prioritize being near you, so if you simply Bunny-speedrun through everything, the pooch will run after you instead of picking stuff up.
This leads us to arguably the most mechanically useful feature of Fellows: “Auto-Dismantle Items”. You can set up your Fellows so they automatically dismantle items they pick up, according to the Filters you set (like automatically dismantling everything below Rare items). This will make your 400% Infiltrations so much more manageable since low-tier items will not clog up your Inventory. Additionally, the devs mentioned that pets can somehow buff up your Module drop rate.
“Adorable and Trustworthy” is pretty self-explanatory. The majority of people on this planet love pets, be they dogs, cats, or any other animal. They all deserve love. First, we had a cat backpack and now dogs will be our trusty companions. The devs said that you can do tricks with your doggo, like high-fives, petting them, and even more adorable interactions.
Finally, the devs talked about Fellow customization. The default version will be a German Shepard type of dog, or Hagios Sheepdog, as is its proper name in the game. The pets’ cosmetics options will be Fur color, Body Clothes (armor, jackets, etc), Body Attachments (backpack), and Head Attachments (goggles and hats). Devs plan to release various colors of fur so you can have various species of doggos. As Christmas is drawing near, Nexon plans to release a Red-Nosed Reindeer skin for doggos, with Santa as a back attachment.
That is all for now. Fellows will join us on December 5 and, if we understood correctly, you’ll unlock them by clearing the upcoming Vessel of the Ancestors Dungeon, the new type of dungeon around which the majority of Season 2 will revolve. Now, who can wait for two more weeks for the Fellows to arrive?
