The long-awaited October 10 Update brought a ton of new goodies, like the positively-received Hard Infiltrations, stunning Ultimate Freyna and her skins, some holiday cheer with Albion Halloween, and many more. It also brought the second Ultimate weapon of Season 1 – The Frost Watcher. The first one, EXCAVA, is an electricity-based weapon, that fires energy grenades. The second one, the Frost Watcher, is best for Chill Arche Descendants, especially Hailey.
It’s a Scout Rifle that triggers various Chill-related effects (like increased Chill Skill Power and reduced target’s Chill resistance) when you hit opponents at least 12.5 meters from you. It also affects Hailey specifically, removing her Movement Reduction when she uses her Cold Fury Skill. The downside is that Frost Watcher reduces your regular and aiming movement speed by 25%. It all sounds pretty neat, but how effective it actually is in the game? Well, it looks like the fans are not sold on the Frost Watcher.
Locked Behind a Colossus
The first issue players have with Frost Watcher is that all the Blueprints are only available in one place – the new Death Stalker Void Intercept Battle. With the trend of every new Colossus being tougher than the last one, the requirement of having to defeat Death Stalker multiple times does not sit well with most players. Players commented: “A weapon too hard to obtain, it’s a shame” by skyrockps5, “Doesn’t matter because gluttony exists. [Publics] still cannot complete it. Majority of players will never see this.” said CodyDNelson, and “The fact you can only get pieces from Death Stalker is [horrible] when majority players haven’t even beat gluttony or frost walker LOL and it only works for Hailey…” added Nova_Grips.
Subpar Performance
The second issue is that Frost Watcher does not seem to perform that well when compared to other popular weapons. First of all, it’s only good for Hailey and Viessa. Second, players claim that it has no damage or Critical Hit rate compared to other weapons, giving you less reason to use it. “Rifle is kinda mediocre tbh. 46% Crit hit chance with 16 stacks of Cold Fury is depressing.“ said Galactic_Monster, and “I have it and it’s absolutely terrible like EXCAVA disappointed” added vjs_gdd2.
As we see it, the Frost Watcher itself may not be the real issue here. The problem may be in other auto-include weapons, where taking anything else is effectively a handicap. It would be awesome if Nexon would rebalance the weapons so that players have more motivation to use non-meta weapons and make some crazy builds.
