The long-awaited Dynamic Motion is finally here, sparking a rise in The First Descendant number of players, but is it enough to revive the game?
When comparing the initial number of players to the more recent ones, we can see that the overall number of active players has decreased by around 95%. TFD went from 264.000 players upon release to about 8000 in the last couple of months, which no one can deny is a serious drop. According to the players, the drop was predominantly due to a lack of engaging endgame content and various performance issues. Nexon is putting all of their hopes on Season 3, which does sound very promising, but that is not all. They recently released the highly requested Dynamic Motion as a part of the 1.2.18 Update, which resulted in a lot of players coming back to the game.
The Dynamic Motion Update Gives The First Descendant a Much-Needed Boost in the Number of Players
On May, the 1.2.18 Update for The First Descendant was released. Besides some pretty cool additions, like the Party Finder, Gilded Death Blossom skin, Ice Maiden, and the improvements for Arche Tuning, the majority of fans are excited for “jiggle physics”, or Dynamic Motion, as it is called in TFD.
This feature is a commonplace in JRPGs and Eastern games, so it was only a matter of time (and pressure put on by the fans) for Nexon to add Dynamic Motion to TFD. While offering absolutely no changes to the game itself, the fans are overjoyed. Social pages, like Reddit and X, are overflowing with videos of all TFD girls showcasing the new feature.
It even went so far as to bring a lot of people back to the game. You can see comments like “I had no idea of these changes. I’ll redownload the game again.“ by OMGZAPPY, and “Downloading for the first time since I quit s1 for this” by Fun-Fall2, for example. All of this resulted in a player count boost, from an average of 7000 players to an average of 10.000 players, so almost a 50% increase.
But Is It Enough?
Unfortunately, while the boost in the player count is welcome, it is far from “saving” TFD on its own. Dynamic Motion got the number of players barely to 10k during peak hours, so we are all still waiting on Season 3 to fix things up. However, we are certain that the Dynamic Motion feature will be responsible for an increase in sales for certain skins and emotes, resulting in increased revenue for Nexon, so it is a win for everybody. So, whatever your thoughts on it, we can’t deny that Dynamic Motion has a positive impact on the game, at least numbers-wise.
