Fans Can Let Out a Sigh Of Relief as The First Descendant Devs Confirm There Will Be No PvP in the Foreseeable Future

First and foremost, TFD is intended as a PvE game, where players team up (or fly solo) to complete missions and grind for materials. But since the beginning, some players have asked whether and when TFD will get a PvP mode. As it stands, the player can only fight the alien Vulgus in various missions, or take on Colossi on Void Intercept Battles, but that isn’t enough. Many players want to test out their skills or builds against other players. The fanbase is very divided on this topic, with some asking for a PvP (since PvP games are pretty popular nowadays) while others say that it would ruin the game. On that note, the latter can let out a sigh of relief, as The First Descendant devs confirm that PvP is not currently considered.

No PvP in The First Descendant, Devs Confirm

For a while now, a part of the fanbase asked for any PvP content in TFD. When Nexon opened up the Q&A channel on their official Discord, a number of players asked time and time again whether anything PvP-related would ever be added to the game. And now, on November 23, the devs finally gave an answer

“The First Descendant is focused on PvE content. We believe there is still much to explore and deliver in terms of fun as a PvE game, and as such, PvP is not currently being considered. We’re sorry if you were looking forward to PvP content and for not meeting your expectations in this regard.”

To be honest, we don’t even know how PvP would work in TFD. Some characters can do tremendous amounts of damage with a single Skill. We doubt anyone would enjoy being obliterated by Freyna or Bunny in a couple of seconds. That semi-tactical approach that the majority of PvP shooters have simply has no place in TFD.

And a lot of fans agree with this. The game is a PvE experience, period. “PvP has no business in this game, there’s plenty of pvp games out there, you don’t need to force it here.” said mikeyeli, and “I personally don’t get it, PvP to PvE game ratio is like 100:1, but people still come in and ask for PvP in PvE game. It’s a waste of resources since people who love PvP will just go play PvP games, “ added Major303. Others even go so far as saying that Warframe, a game that is an obvious inspiration for TFD, added a PvP mode and that it’s not that good.

In conclusion, we think this is the right call by Nexon. They should focus on providing the best PvE experience they can. Splitting resources to appease a minority would not be a sound move. And there are plenty of great PvP games to go around.
