After a long wait, we finally get some official details, as the skills and abilities of Serena in The First Descendant have finally been revealed.
Serena is the upcoming Descedant and is ready to join the team on March 13. She uses the Fire Arche, and we already know that she has some limited flying abilities that everyone is already crazy for. As for her Skills, apart from being a Fire Descendant, we don’t know anything else. We recently had a teaser post (now removed) about her skill icons, but there were some mistakes, so no help there. And now, finally, with the latest devlive, her skills have been revealed. Is she an AoE damage dealer or maybe a healer (I mean, she does look like one)? Let’s see.
Serena, The Awakened Hope, Skills and Modules in The First Descendant
Here are Serena’s skills in more detail. As you’ll see, the Fire and Singluar/Dimension Reactors work the best for her.
- Divinity (Passive) – Serena gains an additional stat bonus when firing a firearm in midair (increased ATK and accuracy, reduced Recoil, triggers when she’s airborne in any way, so flying, jumping, falling, or using the Grappling Hook)
- Sacred Flame (Fire, Singular) – Fires flames in the direction of the crosshairs to deal damage and inflict Repentance. On hitting an ally, grants Blessing.
- Repentance acts the same as Burn. Firearm attacks against enemies inflicted with Repentance have a chance to recover Rounds for stowed firearms, and defeating affected enemies can spread this condition to anyone nearby.
- Blessing heals you over time.
- Ascension (Fire, Singular) – Greatly decreases gravity while this skill is active. Firearm attacks while in mid-air have additional effects depending on the Rounds in use. However, Jump and Grappling Hook charge times have been adjusted.
- Soar (Fire, Dimension) – When used on the ground, Serena shoots into the air and deals some AoE damage around her. When used in mid-air, Serena moves quickly in the direction of movement and Reloads the currently equipped weapon. She moves farther the longer you hold the button. You can use it in combination with Ascension to stay airborne for quite some time.
- Redemption (Fire, Dimension) – When used on the ground, removes all debuffs on Serena and all allies within range, and grants Prayer of Redemption. When used in midair, grants Redemption’s Judgment to self.
- Prayer of Redemption provides healing and a damage reduction buff.
- Redemption’s Judgment increases your damage output and makes your attacks deal AoE damage in a huge area.
- Divine Surge (Transcendent Module, Replaces Redemption) – Flies forward, inflicting Knockback on enemies in the path and deals large amounts of damage and inflicting Repentance on landing. Additionally, creates a path of fire in her wake that deals continuous damage to enemies within range.
- Hymn (Transcendent Module, Replaces Soar) – When used on the ground, creates a zone that increases the Jump of allies. When used in midair, temporarily increases the Movement Speed of nearby allies.
Serena’s Background
We heard earlier that Serena belongs to an “older” line of Descendants, making many believe she’ll be depicted as an older woman. However, her design aligns with the rest of Victoria’s Secret models, aka, female Descendants, meaning her being an older Descendant means something else.
As mentioned in the broadcast, Serena is one of the early Descendants, and a century ago (in the TFD timeline), few Descendants were captured and sealed away by the Vulgus, with Serena being one of them. And when the current line of Descendants starts exploring the Sigma Sector (the new Area), she awakens. A cool background story, and it is quite a shame that Nexon is not doing more with these background stories, apart from a couple of missions and cutscenes.
Everything so far is looking pretty fire (pun intended), and we are sure that playing Serena and flying around would be immensely fun.
