In Texas Chainsaw Massacre players who love to scout and detect rather than engage with Family members, Sonny is an ideal pick. Boasting the highest Endurance stat of all the Victims, Sonny is a masterful character when it comes to locating other Family members and setting up sneaky plays. That makes you wonder, though, what would be the best build for a stealthy character like Sonny?
Best Sonny Build in Texas Chainsaw Massacre
As we mentioned before, Sonny has the highest Endurance stat in the game, and his unique ability, Heightened Sense, allows him to sense the locations of other people, Family members, and Victims alike. The build we’re going for will be around using him as a scout and keeping him away from any altercations when possible. He does have good Strength stats as well, something you can factor in.
Best Sonny Perks in Texas Chainsaw Massacre
There are quite a few perks that go well with Sonny’s build, but it all depends on your playstyle and how proficient you are at the character. However, the three best overall perks are Radar Detector, Choose Flight, and Tae Kwon Door.
There are some perks that are better suited to certain situations, like Meter Reader and Agitator in place of Tae Kwon Door, but that leaves you defenseless if you come across a Family member. The build gives you significant scouting potential as well as a good escape tool.
Radar Detector
Radar Detector is the first perk we’ll talk about and probably the most important one. To be able to gather information on where other Family members are is essential since it allows you to dodge out of their way. This perk highlights all the Family members throughout the map whenever Grandpa uses his signature scream ability to locate the Victims.
If you know where the other Family members are, you can easily plan your next move depending on whether you want to engage with them or avoid them. For those who switch out Meter Reader for Tae Kwon Door, you can activate these abilities subsequently to keep tabs on Family members most of the time. Radar Detector also has several charges, so Sonny has multiple uses rather than a one-time thing.
Choose Flight
Remember we said Sonny isn’t great at Close Encounters? Well, to avoid those, you should opt for Choose Flight. Choose Flight replenishes Sonny’s stamina bar once it runs out and has several charges.
There are two reasons why this is an optimal perk for him. One, he has very high Endurance, so this helps him last longer. Secondly, he can escape from Family members without them catching him. Since he plays a scout role for the group, quickly escaping and repositioning yourself can also be useful to detect other approaching Family members with your Heightened Sense. If you want even more Endurance, you can pair this with Ran Track.
Tae Kwon Door
Sometimes, no matter how fast you run, you can get cornered by Family members. With low Toughness, a few hits are enough to take you out. Tae Kwon Door allows you to slam a door in a Family member’s face to stun them for an extended period of time. The stun can go up to 16 seconds, giving you more than enough time to sprint out of there.
In our opinion, this is a situational perk for more advanced players. However, newer players should always opt for this perk as it’s a great escape tool and mitigates the punishment for any mistakes you make. It also benefits other Victims since you can complete objectives and run off before the stun wears off.
Best Sonny Attributes in Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Sonny excels at locating nearby Family members, and with him having the highest Endurance in the group, he’s great at running away as well. However, if you really want to bring out his true potential, you could add Attribute Points to Stealth and Proficiency. Since he already has high Endurance and Strength, you don’t need to focus on those too much.
This doesn’t mean that you can’t mix up some of those stats. If you’re running a Choose Flight-Ran Track setup, you should look to max out Endurance first and focus on Proficiency after that. This allows him to complete tasks and get out of danger easily. Another option is to focus on Strength and Toughness in order to have him on the frontline sometimes.
Our recommendation regarding the current build though is to add a few points to Endurance and the rest to Proficiency and Stealth. In order to properly utilize his Heightened Senses ability, you need to get close to Family members without being caught, especially in the earlier levels. Stealth will help you achieve this. Proficiency is a generally good stat for Sonny since you’ll want him to complete objectives fast so everyone can leave.
Best Sonny Ability Modifiers in Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The last bit we’re talking about is Sonny’s Ability Modifiers. Sonny’s unique ability, Heightened Sense, allows you to sense nearby enemies within a certain radius. To enhance this ability even further, you can take Increased Range, Ability Drain Reduction, and All Knowing.
Increased Range and All Knowing are essential parts of Sonny’s build, especially for newer players. Increased Range helps you extend your ability’s range and sense Family members further away. All Knowing, on the other hand, is important for all players since you can then differentiate between sounds made by Family members and other Victims.
Once all the Victims are on the same floor, it gets difficult to know whether the sound you heard was from a friend or foe. All Knowing will help mitigate that risk and help you plan ahead. Ability Drain Reduction is a situational Modifier. It reduces the consumption rate of Heightened Sense, letting you conserve it for later.
You can switch out Ability Drain Reduction for Quick Recharge Rate or Shorter Cooldown if you feel it suits your playstyle better.
