It’s no secret that horde mode is coming to Space Marine 2 sometime in 2025, likely during Season 4. While the feature that flans were clamouring about from the start is still many months away, that couldn’t prevent speculation. Many players love the idea of a horde mode in the world of 40k and it would fit perfectly. But it has to be done right. The community has gathered to share some wish-list ideas for the upcoming mode
The fan-made SM2 horde mode feature checklist
Originating on Reddit, players have congregated to put forward their ideas for what the horde mode should be like in a game like Space Marine 2. Started by ComdrRiker01, the thread states: “My hope is it’s set in a multi-levelled maze (basically a dungeon) with objectives that need to be completed while you hold off the enemy. I imagine getting lost or getting stuck in a dead end and the unrelenting horde attack with your back against a wall. “Lost” is a key word for me here because I don’t want to know how to get to the objectives. I want it to be important to find map rooms, keys to open doors, and power generators to access the next area.”
This already sounds like a cool concept, borrowing from similar games like GTFO and L4D2. In contrast, Westtom93 would like to see a more open concept: “I honestly would like to see large open space maps with a bit of terrain variety, some areas with bushland, a few explorable large open buildings etc. And my one wish is for larger PVE groups. I wanna feel like a team of marines stranded in a big battle situation. Maybe 6-8 sized groups, taking on infinite waves. Some hidden items too in the rough, to get replayability going.”
Conversely, some players have more modest expectations, erring on the side of realistic game development effort given the time frame. “I’d be impressed if it were anything more than 2-3 small, semi-open maps with Dinkle-bot defense objectives.”, explained KenoshaKidAdept. If Saber Interactive goes with the bare minimum route, then this is likely similar to what the end product would be. However, we’d love to dream big and ultimately get a feature-rich mode that can stand on its own alongside the current operations.
