The upcoming Secret Level series will serve as an epilogue of sorts to Space Marine 2

Fans of the Warhammer 40k universe have known for a while that the upcoming anthology series Secret Level will feature our beloved grimdark universe in one of its sections. The animated anthology series will be comprised of several famous gaming settings, including Dungeons and Dragons, Unreal Tournament, Armored Core, and many others. Now we have a few more details about the Warhammer section, along with the anthology as a whole.

Lieutenant Titus is ready to make an appearance in Secret Level

Among the new information coming from Warhammer Community, it has been confirmed during New York Comic Con that Lieutenant Titus will be a prominent figure in the Warhammer 40k portion of the Secret Level anthology. Moreover, Clive Stander (aka Rolo from Vikings) will be reprising his role as the grizzled Ultramarine. Fans of Space Marine 2 have noticed that in the teaser, Titus’ helmeted visage bore a laurel, as seen at the end of the game – meaning that the timeline takes place after those events. In many ways, the animation follows after the conclusion of Space Marine 2 – an epilogue for all of us who want to see more of what Titus is up to.

War marches from Dawn of War to Secret Level

The film director Tim Miller, famous for the Deadpool movies, is overseeing the animated anthology, but it’s Dave Wilson who’s the supervising director and executive producer. He is the person behind the original Dawn of War introductory trailer (that we’ve seen at least hundreds of times), so we can already tell that the grimdark universe is in good hands. During the address, he had a few words to share with 40k fans:

“Twenty years ago, I directed my first Warhammer trailer for Dawn of War – in fact, it might have been my first trailer I’ve ever directed. Hard to remember that far back.”

“Now, two decades later, returning to this universe feels like coming home, and it’s been a deeply personal homecoming. I lost my father while we were writing this episode. I received the call during a writing session with Games Workshop. The themes of legacy and control that we explore in the story resonate with that loss, making this one of the most meaningful projects I’ve ever worked on.”

“Being part of something as vast and beloved as Warhammer is both a privilege and a responsibility. These worlds, these characters – they don’t belong to me or to anyone else out here in LA who borrows them for an ephemeral moment. They belong to the teams in the creative dens and factory floors in Nottingham, who share what they build with a passionate fanbase that has kept this universe thriving for four decades.”

“All I hope is that we’ve made them and you proud — and maybe, wherever he is, my old man too.”

Mark your calendars

We are all looking forward to seeing more Space Marines in animation. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait too long for the opportunity. Secret Level’s first episodes are set to appear on December 10, 2024, landing on Amazon Prime Video. The Warhammer 40,000 episode is going to be a part of that first wave. The second wave will follow a week later, on December 17. We’re excited to see more of the 40k universe in animated form, and especially Lieutenant Titus.
