No game is without bugs, but some are so frustrating that they can ruin your experience before you even get to play or continue playing. This is the case with a recently uncovered bug that seems to target PS5 players in Space Marine 2. The issue causes your progress to stifle and revert, wasting hours of your progression time. Yet the more we look into it, the more players come out with a similar experience.
Lost progress is no joke
The first instance of this bug that we’ve encountered comes from one of our Reddit battle brothers, Mystikmuffin. They posted a thread detailing the issue: “I keep losing levels in multiplayer. Guns I’ve unlocked, level progress, and rank. I play for a few hours, and when I return I’m set back. I keep seeing this happen if you play offline that progress isn’t saved, but this isn’t the case if I’m clearly online to play Eternal War. This has also happened to me a number of times in operations. Is there any mention of a fix or a reason why this happens? I really am enjoying this game, but I can’t keep putting in what little time I have if I have nothing to show for it the next day.” Further on, they added that they play on PS5, which prompted others to come out and confirm that a problem exists. “It keeps happening to me, I’m on PS5 too. Still waiting for Saber to fix it.” added Jjwangj in the comments.
Other PS5 users have said that they didn’t have this bug happen to them, but have heard from others who did. That means it’s not a deterministic issue, despite being a somewhat known occurrence. Hopefully, Saber will soon come out with a fix, since this is quite a game-breaking problem for those who suffer from it.
Are there any fixes?
Though nothing official has been posted yet, some players have offered possible solutions, though we are yet to hear of any of them actually working. Neviathan wrote: “I have heard that it could help if you register your account with PROS iirc. When you boot up the game you see the registration link in the bottom right corner of the main menu (with continue/new game/settings etc). Plus side is that you also unlock a Deathwatch cosmetic and 125 yellow currency.”
Another player, Lumpy-Ad8618, who admittedly plays on Xbox, offered a simpler possibility: “I’m on Xbox, not played Eternal War yet, I just play Operations and every time I am finished and go off the game, I go to the title screen before I shut down the game. Not sure if that’s why I’ve not lost my progress or anything but if it happened to me I would be annoyed.”
Ultimately, it comes down to waiting for an official fix or at least clearing up what’s causing the issue. If it’s something as simple as not going to the main menu before quitting the game, then that’s just poor design. However, if it’s a more serious bug than that, then it needs to be addressed before it causes those affected to quit the game.
