RTX 5080 release date, pre order, & where to buy

Nvidia’s RTX 5080 was finally unveiled at CES 2025, showcasing next-generation graphics, doubling the performance of the previous gen in certain scenarios with DLSS 4 enabled. The RTX 5080 is set to release alongside the flagship RTX 5090 on January 30th, with the rest of the family joining in February.

The new 50-series will retail at a reasonable MSRP and if the performance numbers are even close to Nvidia’s marketing material, gamers will benefit.

RTX 5080 release date & time

The RTX 5080 release date is confirmed for January 30th, 2025. The new card will launch from various partners but also in its limited Founders Edition. Confirmed partners are: ASUS, Colorful, Gainward, GALAX, GIGABYTE, INNO3D, KFA2, MSI, Palit, PNY, and ZOTAC. No doubt more AIB cards to follow but there is a good selection for launch.

While unconfirmed, we can be fairly sure of the release time based on previous launches. We expect the 5080 to launch at 9 am ET, 8 am CT, 6 am PT, 2 pm GMT.

RTX 5080 review embargo

We normally see review embargos lift the day before release and it looks as though the RTX 5080 will follow this trend on the 29th. However, rumors suggest we could see the embargo lift as early as the 24th of January for the 5090.

RTX 5080 pre order & price

Pre orders are quite rare for launches on day one of release unless stock sells out. This is gearing up to be a very popular launch, especially if independent benchmarks and reviews are positive. The RTX 5080 will cost $999, $200 less than its predecessor, potentially offering excellent value in the high-end category. Whether or not you will be able to get your hands on one of these for that price is another question altogether. We would suggest securing one at launch to avoid any potential price inflation from scalpers and greedy third-party sellers. Overclockers UK states that pre-orders go live on January 30th, which may indicate limited stock availability.

RTX 5080 performance benchmarks

Nvidia boasts “twice the performance of the 4080” but we have very little performance data to go off right now. Most of the data show DLSS 4 in action but there are educated guesses to be made based on the specifications.

Games like Cyberpunk 2077, Alan Wake 2, and Black Myth: Wukong all showcased over 2x performance with DLSS and full RT. This shows that select games are going to be playable in max settings, in 4K with 144Hz / 240Hz refresh rate monitors.
