Trying to figure out how to unlock the permanent Fly ability in the Indigo Disk DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet? You’re not alone. We’ll go over what you need to do before you can access this handy new feature.

The Indigo Disk DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has added a slew of highly requested features to the game, from playing as your Pokémon with the Synchro Machine to flying. That said, you won’t have access to these activities from the start of your DLC playthrough. For the majority of your adventure at Blueberry Academy, you’ll need to rely on the current abilities of Koraidon or Miraidon to traverse the four biomes of the Terarium, even after you beat Amarys’ trial. However, the Steel-type specialist can help you teach your Legendary companion how to fly for good later on. Here’s what you need to do.

To unlock Koraidon or Miraidon’s permanent Fly ability in the Indigo Disk DLC, you’ll first need to complete the main story. This means you’ll first have to defeat the BB League Elite Four and Kieran to become Champion. But that’s not all — with your new title, you’ll be asked to explore the underdepths of Area Zero alongside Professor Briar, Kieran, and Carmine to harness the power of Terapagos. Ultimately, this will complete your journey in Unova — for now.

After the credits roll, a few quests will open up. One is initiated by Amarys, who is waiting for you in Classroom 1-4. You can get there by going through the main entrance of the academy or exiting your dorm room. When you speak with the Steel-type trainer, she’ll teach Koraidon/Miraidon how to use the Fly ability for good.

Pokémon Scarlet/Pokémon Violet Expansion Pass: The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero (Retail Version) Standard – Nintendo Switch [Digital Code]
  • Only one code for a Hisuian Zoroark can be used in either the Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet game. Upon purchase of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC, an email with your code will be sent to the email address registered to your Nintendo Account. From the in-game menu, go to the Poké Portal, then select Mystery Gift, select Get with Code/Password, and then enter your code.
  • The Mystery Gift option can be found within the Poké Portal menu option in the X menu after you unlock the feature in the Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet game. (This occurs after about 1 to 1.5 hours of gameplay, though individual gameplay time may vary.) An internet connection and a Nintendo Account is required to redeem the item in game. A Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required. Each item can only be redeemed once.

How to Fly on Koraidon or Miraidon

If you’re like me, then it probably took a bit of practice to master flying during Amarys’ trial in the Indigo Disk DLC. Fortunately, the stakes aren’t so high once you’ve gained access to this ability following the main story. In fact, flying is fairly simple — just mount Koraidon or Miraidon, then jump and press B to initiate the Glide ability. You can then press the Left stick to switch to Fly mode.

As you explore the skies of the Terarium, use your Left stick to navigate up and down or to change the direction you’re headed. The Right stick should only be used to switch up your camera angle. Once you get the hang of the controls, flying is the best way to travel long distances. Once unlocked, you can use this feature throughout the Terarium as well as Kitakami and Paldea.
