Pokémon Scarlet and Violet – How to Connect to Pokémon GO

Trainer holds a Terastal Poké Ball in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

By following a step-by-step process, you can now connect Pokémon Scarlet and Violet with Pokémon GO. Although, we use the term ‘connect’ loosely here, as the procedure doesn’t actually allow you to transfer all Pokémon directly from the smartphone app to your Scarlet or Violet save file on the Nintendo Switch. Instead, you can send postcards from your real-world adventures in Pokémon GO to the Paldea region of the mainline entries. But how exactly do you connect Pokémon Scarlet and Violet with Pokémon GO?

Nintendo has laid out the process, covering what you’ll need to do prior to connecting and how to get started. Here’s how you can connect Pokémon Scarlet and Violet with Pokémon GO.

Can I Connect Pokémon Scarlet or Violet with Pokémon GO?

In a sense, you can connect your Pokémon Scarlet or Violet game with the Pokémon GO app on your smartphone. According to Nintendo, here’s what you need to do to start the process.

In Pokémon GO:

  • Tap the Poké Ball in the lower center of your screen to open the menu.
  • Look to the top right and enter your Settings.
  • Scroll down and tap Connected Devices and Services.
  • Tap Nintendo Switch.

In Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet:

  • Download and install the latest version of Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet.
  • Launch Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet on your Nintendo Switch.
  • Press the X button to open your main menu.
  • Select Poké Portal.
  • Choose Mystery Gift.
  • Select the Connect to Pokémon GO directive.
  • Select Pair with a Pokémon GO Account.
  • When asked whether you would like to pair with your Pokémon GO account, select Yes.

Nintendo also notes that you must first reach the Pokémon Center in Los Platos on your Pokémon Scarlet or Violet playthrough in order to gain access to the Mystery Gift feature. This is an early area in the games, so it shouldn’t pose too much of a problem to reach the location.

Can You Transfer Pokémon from Pokémon GO to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?

The only Pokémon that you can currently transfer directly from Pokémon GO to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is the Roaming Form Gimmighoul. However, you can transfer monsters from Pokémon GO to Pokémon HOME, which is now compatible with Scarlet and Violet. Additionally, you may send postcards from Pokémon GO to Pokémon Scarlet or Violet as a fun way to greet friends or connect the two worlds between your own accounts.

How Do You Send a Postcard from Pokémon GO to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?

As outlined by Nintendo, you can send postcards from Pokémon GO to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet by following these steps on your smartphone and Nintendo Switch.

In Pokémon GO:

  • Tap your Trainer icon in the bottom left of your screen.
  • Open the Postcard Book.
  • Choose the postcard you wish to send, then select Send to Pokémon Scarlet or Send to Pokémon Violet.

In Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet:

  • Press the X button to open your main menu.
  • Open the Poké Portal.
  • Select Mystery Gift.
  • Select Connect to Pokémon GO.
  • Select Communicate with Pokémon GO, and you will receive the postcard you were sent.

Now that we finally have Pokémon HOME compatibility with Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, we can transfer a pretty solid amount of monsters from previous titles and Pokémon GO. While the vast majority of Pokémon are still unable to be transferred to Scarlet or Violet, we’re keeping hope alive. As we near the release of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC for the mainline entries, we can anticipate a new roster of monsters that will arrive with the first part this fall.
