Will Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC Be Free? All Price Details

Player at Festival of Masks in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC: The Teal Mask

Wondering if you can get the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC for free? Stick around for all price details surrounding the new content coming to the base games in September.

The release date for Part 1 of the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC is fast approaching with just two weeks left until launch on September 13. Following the events of the main story, the two-part expansion goes beyond the furthest reaches of Paldea to the region of Kitakami and the academy’s sister school. Divided into The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk, the Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC is currently available for pre-order through Nintendo and major retailers. Let’s cover the cost.

Is Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC Free?

Priced at $34.99, the Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will set you back about half the cost of either base game without a Nintendo Switch Online membership. If you have a paid subscription to the service, you can essentially download the content for free. Of course, a membership will run you the same cost at $34.99.

The download will include both parts of the expansion, The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk. However, Part 1 will be available to play much sooner than its counterpart with a date set for September 13, while Part 2 has not yet received an official launch date. As with other expansion passes, the content is digital-only.

Considering the expansion will take you to an all-new region and introduce new areas and features absent in Scarlet and Violet, the standard price is fair. Not to mention, you can snag the DLC for just a bit cheaper if you opt to purchase through Walmart. The expansion is also available through Nintendo and other major retailers, including Amazon, Target, Best Buy, and GameStop.

If you plan to purchase The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC, be sure to select the version modified for your game. For example, those with a copy of Pokémon Scarlet must purchase the compatible expansion. Don’t worry about missing out on version exclusives, though. There are no content differences between the modified expansion passes, as both versions include Part 1 and Part 2.

Complete the main story in Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet for your chance to meet all-new Legendary Pokémon and other fan-favorite monsters in the DLC next month.
