Sony is one of the most famous companies of today. It is predominantly known for making electronics and is the creator of Sony PlayStation, one of the most (if not THE most) famous gaming consoles of today. And that is only the tip of the iceberg. Now, there are talks that Sony plans to acquire Kadokawa, another major player in the world of business which is also FromSoftware’s parent company, the creators of Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Elden Ring, and more. Kadokawa is a Japanese media conglomerate that deals with movies, video games, publishing, copyrights, and more.

Sony in Talks to Acquire Kadokawa (FromSoftware’s Parent Company)

According to a report from Reuters “Sony is in talks to acquire Kadokawa, the Japanese media powerhouse behind the “Elden Ring” game, two sources familiar with the matter said, as the technology giant looks to add to its entertainment portfolio. The talks between the two sides are ongoing and, if successful, a deal could be signed in the coming weeks, the sources said.“

Kadokawa has recently announced that they are planning to invest more in the gaming scene and release about 20 more games, for both consoles and mobile phones. They had huge success a couple of months ago with the release of FromSoftware’s Shadow of the Erdtree, a DLC for Elden Ring. It proved so successful that it was even nominated for the Game of the Year award, in this year’s The Game Awards.

As for Sony, they already own shares in both Kadokawa and FromSoftware. Most likely they want to capitalize on the recent growth of both companies and bring them to its fold. There is no further info on the negotiations, but if they do come to an agreement, that will be huge. The gaming world holds its proverbial breath. Stay Tuned.
