Silent Hill 2 Remake is winning on all fronts. The devs’ desire to update the game but keep it as close as possible to the original is paying dividends. It even scored better than the original game, getting an impressive 86 on Metacritic. Additionally, with PlayStation 5 Pro on the way, everything points towards Silent Hill 2 Remake getting the “PS5 Pro Enhanced” tag, making it even better when played on Sony’s upcoming state-of-the-art console. The only thing lacking is the in-game Photo Mode (but fans found a way around it). With that much success, it is no wonder that Silent Hill 2 Remake sold one million copies in the first week.

Silent Hill 2 Remake Hits One Million Copies Sold on October 11

On October 17, Konami announced that Silent Hill 2 Remake had managed to sell one million copies in just a few days after the official release.

“LOS ANGELES – October 17, 2024 – Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. (KONAMI) today announced SILENT HILL 2, the anticipated remake of the 2001 psychological horror has sold a combined 1 million physical retail and digital copies in less than one week (October 11) since its October 8 launch on PlayStation 5 and PC via STEAM. Developed by Bloober Team, composer Akira Yamaoka, and concept artist Masahiro Ito, the SILENT HILL 2 remake garnered global critical acclaim as one of the “must play” games of 2024.”

That is a huge success for the Bloober Team. Managing to sell over a million copies in just a few days is no small feat. Fans praise the game, with 22Seres stating that it is a big step for the Silent Hill franchise. “This is extremely impressive for the series. It’s never really sold all that well even though it’s so beloved. The original is still the best selling entry at only 2m copies. And it took SH2 over a month to hit 1m copies (but that didn’t include Europe since it hadn’t released there that at point. It’s pretty much all Konami could’ve really asked for with the remake. Brought the series back in a big way and now there’s going to be a lot of enthusiasm for SHf and Townfall whenever they’re finally shown again.“

It goes to show that keeping true to the source material while updating the game for modern platforms pays off. Every industry should take a note from Bloober’s book.
