Well, as previously mentioned, it is pretty hard to create something 100% original today. It’s all well and good for developers to be inspired by other games, you practically can’t avoid it. But it is a whole different matter when someone gets inspired way too much and ends up blatantly ripping off existing games. We had that situation with Palworld earlier this year, and right now, we have a similar one. Tencent has announced a new game called Light of Motiram that is a shameless ripoff of Horizon Forbidden West, and similar games.
Light of Motiram – A Blatant Ripoff of Horizon Forbidden West
On November 28, Polaris Quest, a subsidiary of Tencent, revealed a teaser trailer for Light of Motiram. The official description of the game is: “In a world overrun by colossal machines, explore the vast open world, build your base of operations, advance technology, train Mechanimals, and take on formidable bosses. Starting from the primitive age, forge a new path of development. Defy the machination, survive with mechanimals.” The release date is still unknown, but we presume somewhere in 2025.
You don’t even have to squint to see the blatant similarities between this game and Horizon Forbidden West: the post-apocalyptic but overgrown environment, a girl protagonist with a bow and arrow, huge mechanical monsters, and more. As for the whole “train Mechanimals” part, people have jokingly said that this game is trying to pull “a Palworld” while also ripping off Palworld.
“Vertical: Permitted East”
Honestly, the comments are the best part of the whole trailer. The absolute best comment is “Vertical: Permitted East”, posted by runemaster on the YT trailer. Other notable ones are:
- “Horizon Forbidden East”,
- “Horizon Zero Creativity”,
- “When you order Horizon Dawn off Temu”,
- “Horizon Temu West “
- “- Mom, I want to play Horizon Forbidden West
– But we have one at home
Horizon at home:” - “…this is a Tencent project that was described as Horizon x Palworld and well… Apparently the developers took that very literally. “
We truly hope Tencent realizes what they are doing and makes amends as soon as possible, as this will surely end badly for them. Still, we got a few chuckles out of this, hope you did too!
