The Horizon series is very popular with the players. The blend of breathtaking nature and huge cybernetic monsters is a real hit, and Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West are one of the most popular PlayStation games. Furthermore, it is practically no secret that a multiplayer game in the same universe is being made. On that topic, recent rumors state that Guerilla Games expects more than a million concurrent players for Horizon Online.
Latest Job Listings at Guerilla Games Require Experience in Handling Systems With More Than A Million Users
On January 15, the Guerilla Games’ website posted a new job listing. The position is Senior Software Engineer – Game Platform, for their Online Infrastructure team. What is peculiar here is the “requirements” section. Aside from the requirements you’d expect from a large company (experience in working in large-scale organizations, coding, “developing infrastructure tools and automation”, etc.), one line stands out.
- Proven experience on building and operating multi service, 1M+ user globally distributed systems across multiple public cloud providers
This alludes to Guerilla expecting to have to handle more than a million players for their upcoming Horizon Online game. Horizon games are very popular, so it wouldn’t be impossible to see a huge surge of players when Horizon Online finally releases.
On the other hand, this may simply be a precautionary measure. We all know how Helldivers 2 fared upon launch. They had to rapidly employ more people, to keep up with the demand and overcrowded servers. So it is possible that Guerilla simply wants to avoid a similar scenario.
We expect that more info on Horizon Online will be revealed in the next State of Play. Some rumors say that it is closer than we think, but there is still no official confirmation.
