Resident Evil 4 is one of the best, if not the best, Resident Evil games out there. It was released in 2005, originally for Nintendo GameCube, and then ported to PlayStation 2 as well. It revolutionized Resident Evil gameplay and was widely praised, winning numerous awards. The plan to do a remake began in 2018 by Capcom’s partner, M-Two, and was later handed over to Capcom in 2021.
Resident Evil 4 Remake was finally released on March 24, 2023, for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and Windows. The Remake brought an updated plot, new visuals and voice cast, modernized combat mechanics, changes to Ashley’s behavior, and more. It scored 93 out of 100 on Metacritic, getting it the coveted “Metacritic Must Play” badge. As you’d expect, the sales for RE:4 Remake are through the roof.
RE:4 Remake Reached 8 Million Units Sold
The Remake of Resident Evil 4 sold over three million units in the first two days of its release. That number was raised to four million after two weeks, and by December 2023, the sales reached six and a half million, making it the fastest-selling Resident Evil game ever.
And now, on October 16, Capcom’s dev team was proud to announce that the Resident Evil 4 Remake Has Sold Over 8 Million Copies.
That is a big win for Capcom, but surprisingly, it is not their biggest sale. That title goes to Resident Evil 2 Remake, which holds the first place with over 14 million units sold. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard holds the second place with over 13 million sales, and the third place goes to Resident Evil Village, with over 10 million units sold. Resident Evil 4 Remake holds 7th place, according to online statistics. Still, the numbers are growing daily, and with Resident Evil 9 next in line to be released (most likely somewhere in 2025), Capcom’s best horror franchise is still going strong.
