Two years after the announcement in October 2022, the Silent Hill 2 Remake is finally here. It is widely praised by players and critics alike, getting some really high scores on Metacritic, and even doing better than the original game. The success was such that it even inspired some haters and internet trolls to try and mess up its Wikipedia page and the review scores there. The game delivered some stunning visuals (which is not much of an effort nowadays, since the original game is 20 years old), but the fans noticed one thing: Silent Hill 2 Remake, in all its updated glory, does not feature Photo Mode.
Silent Hill 2 Remake Needs a Photo Mode, According to Players
Photo Mode is a popular feature in many games, especially those that have some awesome graphics. In short, Photo Mode is a feature that allows you to take awesome shots while playing your favorite video game. It technically freezes the action, while allowing you to move the camera around and adjust different camera settings, so you can take the best screenshot possible.
It is tricky to add Photo Mode in online games (since you can hardly pause those), but single-player games, like for example, Silent Hill 2 Remake, are perfect for it. So it’s truly a mystery why Silent Hill 2 Remake does not come with a built-in Photo Mode.
The fans are so amazed by the visuals, and you get statements like: “I hope they will add Photo mode in future update because this game needs it soooo much. It took me 3 hours just to reach Woodside because I was just admiring environments.“ by Kaci_007, and “I would literally photograph all the written stuff. Every newspaper, memo, poster…. just every asset…I want to read it, see what the art dep put in those, what easter eggs and lore they wrote, how they built upon what we know as Silent Hill.” added MlleHelianthe.
Others think that in a game like this, Photo Mode could be exploited to cheat a little bit. “Photo mode could be easily exploited to check where most of the monsters are hiding,” said Fellero.
We can almost guarantee that Bloober Team will add Photo Mode in future updates, as skipping it would be a huge missed opportunity. Players think the same, and you get comments like: “…usually they get added later which I think it will here “ and “I imagine they delay its release for player retention. Seems like a no-brainer to include it though.”
How to Take Amazing Photos in Silent Hill 2 Remake
If you happen to play Silent Hill 2 Remake on PC, you can simply press the screenshot button (usually F12 for Steam users). Sure, it’s not the same as Photo Mode, you have less freedom, but it’s something.
As for console players, they are in a tougher spot. However, there is a neat little trick, courtesy of GermanStrands on X, that can help you get some good photos. If you stand near the wall and then turn the camera around, you’ll get to see what is behind you with no James standing in the way, allowing you to take some cool photos (if you are not chased by a monster).
In conclusion, while we understand that Photo Mode could be exploited and used in a way that the devs haven’t intended, it would be a shame for a game as stunning as Silent Hill 2 Remake to not have some way of allowing you to take awesome screenshots. Fingers crossed it gets added in the future.
