God of War is a popular series of games, following Kratos, a warrior from ancient Sparta, who becomes a God of War. The initial story was set in ancient Greece but has since moved to other pantheons, namely Norse mythology. The first game was released all the way back in 2005, with several sequels set in the classic Greek era. The installments in question are God of War (2005), God of War II (2007), God of War: Betrayal (2007), God of War: Chains of Olympus (2008), God of War III (2010), God of War: Ghost of Sparta (2010), God of War Saga (2012), God of War: Ascension (2013), and God of War III Remastered (2015). All of these games are known as the “First Era”

After that, the series took a whole different approach, as the God of War: A Call from the Wilds (2018), God of War (2018), God of War Ragnarök (2022), and God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla (2023) were all inspired by Norse mythology, and they are known as the “Second Era”.

Remakes of First Era God of War Games May Be Announced

According to Lunatic Ignus, a reliable insider whose leaks about Black Myth: Wukong have all proved accurate, remasters of all Greek, “First Era” God of War Games are in the works. Lunaticus Ignus posted this only on their personal Discord server, saying that we will get the announcements in March 2025. Furthermore, it would coincide with the franchise’s 20th anniversary.

While nothing guarantees that there is any truth in this announcement (other than the insider’s good reputation), a lot of games are now getting remastered. Recently we heard that Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone are all getting remasters, to bring them up to date with newer consoles. And let’s not forget the recent remake of Silent Hill 2. So the First Era of God of War games may get updated as well, especially with PS5 Pro on the way.
