Konami is a world-famous entertainment company from Japan that is responsible for a ton of games, both video and physical. The company originated in 1969 and has made a lot of famous games ever since, like Frogger, Metal Gear, Silent Hill, Castlevania, Contra, Dance Dance Revolution, and Yu-Gi-Oh!, a famous trading card game. The first time we came into contact with Konami was the Rocket Knight Adventures game on Sega Mega Drive, back in the nineties,
Unfortunately, in March 2015, Konami announced they would withdraw from making console games and instead focus on mobile games, to the dismay of fans everywhere. In that same year, Hideo Kojima left the studio and opened Kojima Productions as his independent company.
Resurgence of Konami Games
Yet, things are not that bleak now. Even after all the controversies, Konami managed to make some very good games in the last couple of years that received great reviews. For example:
- Silent Hill 2 Remake received a score of 88 on Open Critic.
- Castlevania Advance Collection received a score of 83 on Open Critic.
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection received a score of 81 on Open Critic.
- Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection received a score of 73 on Open Critic.
- Contra: Operation Galuga received a score of 72 on Open Critic.
- Both Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and Suikoden are getting remakes that are going to be released soon.
Silent Hill 2 Remake alone can be responsible for bringing Konami back on track with AAA games. The game smashed every review and will surely be nominated for Game of the Year 2024 or another similar reward.
This may all prove to be Konami’s great resurgence in the world of AAA gaming, and we’re excited to see what they plan to do next.
