There were a lot of doubts concerning the Remaster for Horizon Zero Dawn. Initially, the fans were skeptical, asking why would you bother remastering an old game when you can allocate those resources to making a new one. The initial clip of the remastered game didn’t do much to convince the skeptics. That is until more detailed reviews started coming in. It turns out that Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster is better than anyone expected, and now that the game has been released, the official reviews are here.

Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster Scores 86 on Metacritic

The Remaster of Horizon Zero Dawn, bringing the game from PS4 to PS5, turned out to be a massive success. The official reviews are in and it managed to score 86 on Metacritic or 84 in OpenCritic. For the record, that is only a marginally lesser score than the original game, which had 89/100 on Metacritic.

For example, the best scores came from Hobby Consolas, who gave it a 95/100, saying: ”Nixxes has once again delivered a quality piece of work, making a beastly 2017 game feel like a current PS5 and PC release. Not everyone will appreciate it because it doesn’t modify gameplay at all and focuses on visual details, but you only have to play the original to see that there’s much more to it than meets the eye,” as well as from GamersRD, who said: “One of the most aesthetically pleasing remasters to date is Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered. While it improves the original game, it still has some minor visual issues. It also introduces all the upgrades and mechanics that made Forbidden West so successful. An excellent time to jump into the franchise or give it another try.”

On the other hand, the “worst” review came from TheGamer, who gave Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster a 70/100. “Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered doesn’t need to exist, yet here we are, and considering the $10 upgrade fee, its presence could have been significantly more barbaric. Passionate fans looking for an excuse to replay Aloy’s debut adventure with lovely visuals and a fresh list of trophies will find this remaster a no-brainer, but for a more skeptical soul like myself, it’s hard to look past the lack of quality of life improvements that only serve to highlight how far things have come since Horizon Zero Dawn first arrived, and how hard it’s become to look back.”

All in all, it looks like the decision to remaster a successful PS4 game was the right one, as the reviews for Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster are pretty good. Moreover, the game is specially geared towards PS5 Pro, which is getting released pretty soon. So, if you are a fan of the franchise, spending the extra $10 to upgrade HZD to the remastered version is more than worth it.
