There are so many great games coming in 2025 that we’ll be spoiled for choice. One of the most anticipated releases is the sequel to Ghost of Tsushima. The official release date is still unknown, but Ghost of Yotei has just been rated in Taiwan, leading players to speculate on the release window, based on other upcoming releases.
In 2020, Sucker Punch released Ghost of Tsushima, an action RPG set in medieval Japan. Unsurprisingly, it was a smash hit, universally praised by both the critics and the players. And now, five years after the first game, Sucker Punch is about to release the sequel. Set 300 years after the events of the first game, Ghost of Yotei will also be an open-world game set in medieval Japan, but this time with a female protagonist, and set in a different region (Yotei). And now, it looks like the game has been rated in Taiwan, prompting everyone to believe that the release date is getting closer.
Ghost of Yotei Gets Rated as “R” in Taiwan
The first game, Ghost of Tsushima, was rated as M17+ for its various depictions of graphic violence, some partial nudity, and inappropriate language. No surprises there. As for the sequel, it has been rated in Taiwan.
According to Gematsu, Ghost of Yotei got an R rating (meaning Restricted), for “Violence, Tobacco and alcohol, and Inappropriate language”. Nothing we did not expect, but games getting rated usually means that the release is getting closer.
Players Speculate on the Release Date
As previously mentioned, 2025 will have its fair share of releases, so the publishers have to navigate a metaphorical minefield. Releasing games too close to each other is usually a bad idea, as the interest and hype get divided to no one’s benefit.
So, knowing which games will get released and when, the players give their thoughts on when we can expect to see Ghost of Yotei. We all know that GTA6 will land somewhere in Fall, so they have to avoid Fall altogether.
“Can’t be June or July because of Death Stranding 2. So it’s gotta be sometime between August and September, “ said one player. Others point out that both Mafia: The Old Country and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater are scheduled to be released in August, so that only leaves September as a “safe” choice. Alternatively, others are adamant that it will be released in July. This is only speculation as Sucker Punch can’t (and probably won’t) take every possible release into account.
Official Ghost of Yotei Release Date Revealed
Well, it looks like Sucker Punch is ready to risk it as they have just announced the release date for Ghost of Yotei – October 2, 2025. It is commendable that they are not worried about the supposed release of GTA6 and how it might impact their own release. Still, based on the information revealed about the game, Ghost of Yotei does sound pretty cool. And hey, some folks are more interested in games like this than in games about crimes and stealing cars!
