FromSoftware has Multiple Projects in the Works Across a Variety of Genres, says Hidetaka Miyazaki

FromSoftware has become a real powerhouse. Its Dark Souls games and Elden Ring (and its DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree) are already a phenomenon in the gaming world. Moreover, its parent company, Kadokawa, says they already have more than 20 new games in development. Does this mean we’ll get a new Elden Ring? Well, Hidetaka Miyazaki says that FromSoftware already has multiple projects in the works across a variety of genres.

FromSoftware Works on Multiple Projects, According to their Director

Sony held the PlayStation Partner Awards event, to commemorate their 30th year anniversary, on December 3, 2024. During the event, an interview was held with Hidetaka Miyazaki, the director of FromSoftware, where they talked about their games and future plans. The topics we found most interesting are:

“Q: It feels like the release of the DLC has brought an end to the series, but what are your plans for the future of “Elden Ring”? Are you planning to make “Elden Ring” a series, or are you thinking of a new IP?

Miyazaki: At this point, we are not considering developments such as “Elden Ring 2”. However, this does not mean that we are denying the development of the IP “Elden Ring”. As for “what will we do then?”, FromSoftware is running multiple projects as usual. There are various variations of projects among them, so we hope you will look forward to them.”

“Q: What kind of work are you thinking about for your next work? I would be happy if you could tell me about the genre, such as fantasy or science fiction.

Miyazaki: I can’t answer that (laughs). We have multiple projects running, and they are in a wide variety of genres. Some of these titles are directed by me, while others are handled by others, so I think we will be able to show you a new FromSoftware in various ways, so please look forward to it.”

So, according to this interview, we will see a new wave of FromSoftwavere games, but no Elden Ring sequels in the near future. Still, we know that they are more than capable of making great games and we are looking forward to their future projects.
