In the last couple of days, there have been many discussions about Sony wanting to take Kadokawa under its wing. For the record, we all know Sony as the creator of the Sony PlayStation console. But, Sony is a lot more than that, as they encompass various other industries, mainly dealing in electronics. On the other hand, Kadokawa is also a Japanese conglomerate, primarily known in the gaming world as the parent company of FromSoftware, the people behind Dark Souls, Elden Ring, Bloodborne, etc. Recently, word began spreading that Sony plans to acquire Kadokawa, and now Kadokawa has given a reply.
Kadokawa Gives an Official Reply to Allegations That Sony Plans to Aquire Them
During the last couple of days, the internet has been ablaze with the story of Sony planning to acquire FromSoftware’s parent company – Kadokawa. Various portals covered the story, first started by a report from Reuters, and then taken by everyone else. The word reached the Kadokawa Corporation and they gave an official reply on November 20, written by their CEO, Takeshi Natsuno:
“There are some articles on the acquisition of Kadokawa Corporation (hereinafter ‘the Company’) by Sony Group Inc. However, this information is not announced by the company. The company has received an initial letter of intent to acquire the company’s shares, but no decision has been made at this time. If there are any facts that should be announced in the future, we will make an announcement in a timely and appropriate manner.”
The message is originally in Japanese and this is just a translation. Whatever the case, we’ll have to wait for a while until we get an official announcement. However, it does not sound like Kadokawa is all about getting acquired by Sony. But that is only our speculation, based on our interpretation of the message. Hopefully, we’ll get the full story in a couple of days.
