The recent news that a couple of live service games-in-the-making were abruptly canceled by Sony is the talk of the town. Gamers worldwide were a bit taken aback by the whole situation. But, as it turns out, they weren’t the only ones. It seems that Bluepoint and Bend Studio found out about their canceled PlayStation live service games at the same time as everyone else did

Just a couple of days ago, Bloomberg revealed that Sony just canceled two live service game projects, one developed by Bluepoint Games, and the other by Bend Studio. Both are respectable studios, responsible for games like Demon’s Souls and Days Gone. Furthermore, it is reported that Bluepoint was working on a God of War live service game. But, Sony decided to axe both projects. As it turns out, they forgot to mention it to the developers.

Sony Didn’t Announce the Live Service Games Cancellation to Bluepoint and Bend Studio Beforehand

Imagine coming to your work and then getting hit with the news that everything you’ve been working on this past few months is scrapped and now you need to come up with something else. Well, that is how the employees of Bluepoint Games and Bend Studio feel these days if the rumors are true.

According to Jeff Grub, that is exactly what happened. “I looked into this a little bit. Yeah, all this is true. The two studios found out at the same time as everyone else, so people will be going into work today wondering ‘Hey, okay, what are we doing next?” You can see it for yourself in the Giant Bomb podcast, shown below (around the 6-minute mark).

It is not likely that Sony already has some for new projects, so we expect now that both of these studios will have to pitch in new ideas. They’re both capable of creating some cool games, so we have no doubts everything will be fine in the end.

DEBUNKED

According to Jason Schreier, a well-known journalist, Jeff’s statement is not really true. “I’ve seen this story getting a lot of traction on Reddit today but it’s not true.” said Jason. “People across the org were informed before my article went out last week.”

In reply, Jeff said: “This was my mistake. A source was trying to say that they just found out recently so they haven’t had time to prepare what is next, and when I tried to recall that I mixed it up as the teams finding out when the story went live. I apologize.”
