The developers of the extremely successful Silent Hill 2 remake are at it again. If you are a fan of survival horror games, you probably heard of the announcement of Cronos: The New Dawn. Bloober Team has been perfecting Cronos for its 2025 release and in a recent interview it was revealed that there will be a special combat mechanic in the game.
Bloober Team Is Working On a New Game
Wojciech Piejko, the Game Director/Designer, gave an interview to mp1st in which he talked about the Bloober Team’s latest project – Cronos. This game looks quite promising to all horror fans. It is a time-travel story in which they’ll encounter horrifying foes and uncover various mysteries.
In the interview, Piejko talked about the role and importance of weapons in horror games. The lack of weapons would make it easier for the player to feel fear. However, if the devs set the scene right, you can have an arsenal of weapons and still feel terrified.
He emphasized the importance of those moments leading up to battle, rather than the battle itself. Piejko noted: “You need to know how to control the tension and understand that when the monsters appear on the screen and the combat starts, the player feels relief. The player no longer thinks about what is lurking in the shadows, and the survival instinct takes over. The key to success in this case is to create a great atmosphere and build-ups before combat encounters, or even trick the player into thinking that they will be attacked and not do it”.
Cronos Will Feature a Brand New Combat Mechanic
The Game Director also revealed that “combat in Cronos is leaning towards RE and Dead Space areas”. Still, as all horror fans know, even though fights and jump scares are great, the true fear lies in those quiet moments in between.
Piejko noted: “…we are still storytellers at heart, so please also expect a strong emphasis on story and atmospheric exploration. The Traveler relies on suit, weapons, and abilities, but is still very vulnerable to the monstrosities lurking in the ruins of an old world”. Sounds like a perfect balance between the psychological and physical, right?
Well, there is one more bonus. According to Bloober Team’s Game Director, there will be a cool new combat mechanic in Cronos. He stated: “We’ve also prepared something special to spice up and increase the tension of combat. I can’t reveal much right now but in Dead Space you need to cut off Necromorphs limbs, in Alan Wake, you need to use a flashlight on enemies, and in Cronos, you will need to.. wait to see it”.
Truth be told, we can’t wait to see what the devs have come up with. Since the release date is still unknown, we can only assume that the game will drop later on in 2025. What we do know is that 2025 will be one of the best years for video game lovers in a long time. So, enjoy!
