After 30 years, I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream will be available on consoles, allowing everyone to experience one of the best classic horror stories out there.
Deemed one of the best short sci-fi horror stories of all time, “I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream” was written by Harlan Ellison and first published all the way back in 1967. It is a post-apocalyptic story where all that is left of humanity are five people, trapped in a reality created by AM, a supercomputer that basically rules the world. It deals with various “heavy” topics, like technological misuse, torture, despair, philosophy of existence, and more.
The story was adapted to a point-and-click video game in 1995, developed by Cyberdreams and The Dreamers Guild, co-designed by the author himself, Ellison, and published by Cyberdreams. It was a commercial failure but has since garnered a cult following. Being released in ‘95 meant that it was only playable on MS-DOS and Mac OS, but it got a PC port in 2013 (via GOG and Steam). And now, 30 years after the initial release, it is coming back.
I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream Is Coming To Consoles
On March 27, 2025, I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream will be playable on today’s consoles: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch. Night Dive Studios have taken over the rights for the game and they decided to make this cult classic available to everyone (naturally, improving it a bit to make it playable on all those platforms).
As for the pricing, the exact cost is still unknown, except for the Switch ($9.99). But since it costs only about $5.99 on Steam, it is safe to assume that the pricing for consoles will be somewhere between $5 and $10.
So, if you are a fan of old-school point-and-click games or a fan of techno-horror, you’re in for a treat.
