Additionally, some small tidbits of information appear here and there, and one just like that is the fact that you will be able to make high-quality 8K screenshots. However, the fans are a bit split on the whole 8K screenshots thing and are discussing the general usefulness of that feature on PlayStation 5 Pro in today’s times.
PlayStation 5 Pro Will Be Able to Take Screenshots in 8K
On November 3, TCMF Games, a popular PS YouTube channel, posted on X: “PS5 Pro allows you to take 8k Screenshots. Currently, the only game we know that has 8K support on PS5 Pro is Gran Turismo 7, If Sony has this feature implemented then they must believe more will come.”
Others chime in saying that F1 24, a formula racing game from Codemasters and EA Sports, will also support 8K, and some even mention The Touryst.
Fans Split on the Usefulness of 8K Today
Images in 8K sound amazing until you realize that hardly anyone has a screen capable of supporting 8K. Players point out that 8K screens/TVs are extremely rare, so this feature will be useful to a tiny minority of players. “Serious question here. Has anyone actually seen an 8k tv in a shop? Are the things even available to the general public?” asked NaoisX. Others point out that 8K screenshots are no good if the game itself cannot run on 8K.
However, some go even further, stating the fact that the regular PS5 had 8K stamped on the box, which was removed somewhere around the time the PS5 Slim was released. This led to some fans speculating that this may be another deliberate move by Sony to entice more people to purchase their latest console.
On the other hand, a lot of fans are looking forward to 8K screenshots. You get comments like “8k Screenshots? Good lord PS5 Pro is goated.” by MickeyKnowledgy, and “I’m gonna be posting 8K screenshots on launch day” by NINJA_2029. Others jump to the defense of Sony, saying that it is only a feature, not a selling point of the whole console, and that people are getting needlessly worked up.
While it is true that the 8K screenshots are just a cool addition to the whole PS5 Pro package, it raises the question of who the target audience for it is. Hardly anyone has a screen capable of supporting 8K images, so you can’t blame the people for being a little critical about it.
