PS5 Pro is just a day away, and the review embargo has finally been lifted. Until today, no official reviews could be posted, and that sparked a bit of controversy, with players claiming that one day before the official release is a bit too late. Whatever the case, the embargo is lifted, and now respected reviewers can finally share their thoughts on Sony’s latest console. For example, in a review by TechRadar, Playstation 5 Pro got 4 out of 5 stars.
TechRadar: PlayStation 5 Pro – Four Out of Five Stars
On November 6, TechRadar, a respectable and trustworthy tech website, posted their review of PS5 Pro. According to them, PlayStation 5 Pro is a “superb console and now the best PlayStation 5 machine available.” They praise the improvements it offers in both visuals and performance, adding that the new PSSR technology works wonders. Moving on they add that the console provides the best results on 120Hz displays, and add that the 2TB storage space and Wi-Fi 7 are more than welcome additions.
As for the cons, you can’t ignore the cost and the fact that you have to purchase additional peripherals that usually come with the console, such as the vertical stand. Let’s not forget that you also need to get the external disk reader separately, which caused a whole heap of trouble. Lastly, the improvements are great but not that great to require upgrading from the regular PS5, if you already have it (unless, of course, you are a true enthusiast for the best possible gaming experience).
The Best Part Is Improved Graphics and Performance, Making Games Like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 “Staggeringly Brilliant”
As we all expected, TechRadar confirmed that the strongest feature of PS5 Pro is the new PSSR technology. They say that games like Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, Horizon Forbidden West, and The Last of Us series “truly shine on PS5 Pro and have new performance modes that run incredibly smoothly at high frame rates and have a level of detail you’d be hard pushed to say weren’t a full-fat fidelity mode.”
The boost in ray tracing is also very obvious, allowing for a consistent 60FPS on most games, enhancing your experience with visually stunning games, such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. “Zipping around New York in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 couldn’t possibly have felt or looked better but here we are – the game is staggeringly brilliant on PS5 Pro.”
Fidelity Pro and Performance Pro
While on the topic of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, TechRadar’s team tested out two new modes in it: Fidelity Pro and Performance Pro. The Fidelity Pro offers “incredible ray-tracing, reflections, and overall sharpness, with a few options to change the intensity of some options which can be altered to gain some performance back.”
On the other hand, about the Performance Pro mode, they said it offers a smooth 60FPS while retaining the image quality of the regular PS5 Fidelity mode, with all the ray tracking features on by default.
We are sure TechRadar would have given PS5 Pro 5 out of 5 stars if the price tag was a bit lower. As it stands, the difference between PS5 Pro and PS5 Slim is around $200 which is not something the majority of gamers can’t simply laugh at. But, if the only downside is the higher price tag and nothing else, that truly means that Sony did a good job with the PlayStation 5 Pro.
