The topic of games getting the “PS5 Pro Support” tag is all the rage now. Fans speculate what games will receive the PS5 Pro “makeover”, with God of War Ragnarok already being confirmed. There are rumors pointing towards Silent Hill 2 Remake, one of the most popular games of today, getting the coveted “PS5 Pro Support” tag. It is reasonable to assume that, moving forward, the majority of new PS games will be made with PS5 Pro in mind. But, as for older games, the devs have to do some extra work to allow those games to fully benefit from everything PS5 Pro has to offer. But, it is so much work?
It Is Not That Hard to Update the Game for PS5
It turns out that various developers are very pleased by how easy upgrading the game for PS5 Pro can be. As stated by a certain developer, named Kotalsky on the Resetera forum:
I am working on two games that will have native PS5 Pro support. One unreleased and one already on the market. Both are open worlds in 3D, using UE4.27+ and UE5.4.4 (Lumen RTGI, AO, Reflections and WP) respectively. The new game will be out around PS5 Pro release. We are planning PS5 Pro update for the older title to be online around PS5 Pro release as well. Hope I can share more info soon, but I can say the update workflow for the new console is very development friendly – even for a very small studios like us. Also, even without native support our game was running MUCH better as we are using DRS and unlocked FPS (up to 120). So I am expecting excellent results in every PS5 game using DRS and/ or targeting 60FPS or more.
The PS5 Pro is set to release on November 7, but more and more studios are doing their best to update their games on time, so they can get the “PS5 Pro Support” tag. And it is great to hear that it is not that much of a hassle for the devs.
